It does in the obvious sense that we're theoretically more in control of the world when we know more about it. But religions/ethical systems condition the way we respond to that knowledge and use it.

Ultimately, societies determine we how we use scientific knowledge, and societies believe in all sorts of scientifically unproveable ideas. Secular and religious.
