@BrianJopek Would it be unnecessarily cruel and mean to call these people stupid?!?!
@ai6yr @BrianJopek deplorables?
@ArmyGirl @ai6yr @BrianJopek Your periodic reminder that HRC was right about everything.
@ai6yr @BrianJopek
No, it would be terribly accurate.
@ai6yr @BrianJopek I like to use the term ”Willfully Stupid” as it is their own choice to be and not a derogatory term for any real conditions.
@ai6yr @BrianJopek I was thinking Dumb as Fuck, myself...
morons they're all morons
@darwinwoodka @BrianJopek Tigers/Eat My Face already.
@charvaka @darwinwoodka @BrianJopek Yep, most certainly. What a world, what a world.
@BrianJopek Awesome! We have put behind us the days when people voted for Leopards Eating People’s Faces Party thinking the leopards would eat other people’s faces.
We are now in the bold new age of people voting for the Wild Felines Consuming Individuals Visages party without understanding what it means.
@BrianJopek Friends (sort of) we know are completely opposed to “government handouts” and Obamacare- Trump voters. Disabled adult daughter is on Medicaid with a scheduled kidney transplant in a month. Won’t they be surprised her new lifelong care with anti-rejection drugs may be in jeopardy soon.
@BrianJopek@mastodon.world @revndm@tech.lgbt I want to have empathy for people but I also feel at some point idiots need to pay for their choice to remain ignorant.
We had a choice and we chose Meta and X and Fox News and hate.
Maybe we didn't really have a choice after all...
@johnlogic@sfba.social @revndm@tech.lgbt @BrianJopek@mastodon.world I admit I'm involved in some deep work today and haven't read the article linked in that post, but I'm very much doubtful of anyone claiming the election was "hacked" beyond "hacked" being used as a reference to marketing/advertising/fake news.
"Hacked" is overused.
However, the writer presents an interesting premise that seems plausible, and the pieces seem to fall into place.
@johnlogic@sfba.social @revndm@tech.lgbt @BrianJopek@mastodon.world Yes, but we need to be careful here. Just because the premise is plausible doesn’t suggest it’s level of probability.
The people who are in the clips in Bad Lip Reading plausibly said what the voice actors are saying, but they didn’t in actuality.
A magician’s assistant meets all of the premises of being sawed in half but isn’t in actuality.
If A then B.
B; therefore A.
Seems like affirming the consequent to me.
Yes, obviously we should tread carefully and logically.
My description doesn't do justice to the piece, which does differentiate between the realms of possibility and probability; here's a sample:
"Finally, the other piece of data raising eyebrows is the fact that Trump won all seven swing states—the first candidate to sweep the board in four decades—without record voter turnout. Less than 50% of voters chose Trump, with Harris less than 1.7% behind him. One data scientist crunched the numbers:
'It’s north of a 35 billion to 1 probability that you could win seven out of seven outside of recount range with less than 50% of the vote.'"
@BrianJopek Is anyone taking bets on when the people who voted for this government start descending on DC to overthrow it?
@JustinDerrick @BrianJopek no, because they're all fucking cowards.
@david @BrianJopek Uh, there were several hundred, maybe even thousand barely-useful idiots who stormed the capital not that long ago...
@JustinDerrick @BrianJopek No shit. Those idiots are getting their cult leader back. They won't do anything.
@BrianJopek They failed their civic responsibility to understand what they voting on. I refuse to have sympathy for the person that screwed me over.
@BrianJopek to be fair, his mom probably ALSO voted for Trump
I can't handle it.
@BrianJopek Began feeling some sympathy there but then I remembered these people were quite happy for others to suffer, for concentration camps and mass deportations, to have Nazi thugs roaming the streets, and women dying of miscarriages, and *only* care when it directly affects them.
@BrianJopek
They get what they voted for. Lesson learned? I hope so.
@BrianJopek There will be such anecdotes but color me skeptical it amounts to much. They aren’t policy voters no matter what you call the policy. They voted for rage & entertainment at the expense of the people they fear & other.
The "I didn't know the ACA is Obamacare" line is crap.
They have been told for over 8 years now that they are the same thing; they couldn't be bothered to listen as it didn't suit them. All they heard was "Obama" and their bigotry kicked in.
@BrianJopek let #darwin step in now.
@GerhardD @BrianJopek Unfortunately, it is not only those who voted that way (or failed to vote at all) and their offspring who will be affected.
@BrianJopek Do you have a link to the tiktok where this happens? I've seen a lot of these posts, but I have yet to see proof of a trumper showing any kind of introspection in any way. I'd love to see it, so send it my way!
@BrianJopek FA and find out
@BrianJopek are we sure this isn't just recycled from the last time he won?
I haven't heard "ObamaCare" mentioned in years
@BrianJopek let’s just hope they are very loud and vocal when they see these things they actually want start to get taken away.
@BrianJopek Really hard to feel sorry for them because many probably voted for Trump because they wanted to hurt *someone else*. They’re only sad when they get treated the way they treat others.
@BrianJopek ah, that beautiful moment when fucking around sloooowly turns into finding out.
@BrianJopek #fasists only cede when they can look back and see what they destroyed.
@BrianJopek Classic #fascism: define a nebulous group or institution, dehumanize and stoke with #fearmongering. No falsehood is perceived as ridiculous by a #truebeliever. Fears become hate. They have a “them” to hate, and bind “us” tightly together.
@BrianJopek I don't believe them.
@BrianJopek I expect the “they lied to us" moment from the movie Don't Look Up will occur some time during Trump's second term. You can fool people for a long time through targeted lies on social media, but eventually they will feel the consequences in real life and stand up.
@BrianJopek the truly ironic thing is that the electoral college was designed to protect us from this kind of folly. Instead, it has made it worse. Trump would not have been president in the first place if we did not have the electoral college.
@BrianJopek people when they realise the leopards eating people's faces party will eat their face too
@BrianJopek@mastodon.world would be a shame if the American MSM wasn't itself a major perveyer of misinformation
Days ago an elderly man, who proudly voted for the neo-fascist party, broke out in tears.
The (now) far-right dominated city council took his only opportunity to get gereatric health treatment (#gerda) in any reasonable distance from home.
Fortunately a leftist health collective now steps in with medical trained volunteers to compensate, but guess what: This stupid guy still roots for a fascist regime, and still hates the political left.
It's really an #idiocracy. #dd2211
@BrianJopek just like many of the Brexitty bunch here… Sigh
@BrianJopek I very often think about the fact A LOT of local radiostations (especially in the midwest) got bought by big mediacompanies already decades ago. At least in those areas and (yes they exist) in areas where there is limited access to the internet it's only the matter of available news sources. Dangerous when those sources only provide propaganda.
Having said that i want to remind y'all, it's a mediaworld nowadays. #FB #X #FoxNews ...
@BrianJopek@mastodon.world we can only hope that these people will remember this when 2028 comes around, and they go to vote for the next president.. then again Americans have proven this over and over again, they are stupid as shit politically collectively. Sooo... I don't have high hopes, but one can hope
@BrianJopek idiocracy is a movie about classism, i don't think it fits.
@BrianJopek oh but maybe it fits because you are a d*** never mind
@BrianJopek "Against stupidity the gods themselves contend in vain."
This is what happens when people chose not to do any research for themselves.
We had it for 14years in the UK, voting for the Party that did shaft them, the Brexit Tories, because voters could not be bothered to check out what was going on under their noses for themselves.
@BrianJopek it is sad that I as a foreigner in a foreign land knew this, but a local USA'ian didn't. Really shows how good miss information is, when people are lazy and lives in a silo.
