Hiya, Mastodon!
I’ve been a bit absent the last few months since our kitty died, but I thought I’d stop by and see how y’all are doing. Scrolling through my feed it’s good to see so many familiar faces being their wonderful selves.
If you don’t mind, I’d like to share something that hit me like a ton of bricks (in a kinda good way).
I’m a pretty devoted fan of older music from the ‘60s thru the ‘80s, but every now and then a newer song grabs me by the throat and doesn’t let go.
This happened last week.
I was driving home from work listening to Tom Morello’s show on SiriusXM when he played a song I’d never heard before that drew me in and knocked me out with its beauty and poignancy. A little digging revealed that it came out about 13 years ago and it’s by a couple brothers who record under the name Dawes. They have a sort of indie folk rock Laurel Canyon sound reminiscent of Jackson Brown.
I’m not gonna try to be a music critic and analyze the lyrics or anything. Lemme just say that I’m floored by the pure emotions in this song and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
BTW, I don’t think this is an “official” video, but I love the way it presents the lyrics and just lets them soak into your brain without putting forth any images that may influence the movie in your head that the song creates.
For your consideration, “A Little Bit of Everything” by Dawes.
