@Sumocat@mastodon.worldI’ve been thinking regularly about Gene Hackman (#RIP) lately, particularly his role as Lex Luthor in the Superman movies. Lex Luthor, greatest criminal mind of our time. The crime? Drop California into the ocean to turn his cheap inland property into prime oceanfront real estate. And also nuke Hackensack, NJ, but that’s just a distraction. And later sell out all of humanity to own Australia. So outlandish that anyone would create such overwhelming chaos just to cash in on waterfront property.
To complete this thought, I had been contrasting Hackman’s Luthor against the Joker from The Dark Knight (#RIP Heath Ledger) whose goal was the chaos. He wasn’t in it for material wealth. No, the Joker set an assembled stack of five billion dollars on fire. That takes work to build. Imagine, you and your team built this multibillion dollar structure, put in that labor, thinking it has to be important, then the guy who ordered it built laughs while it burns. Completely absurd, right?
