This is your daily reminder that you have millions of friends and allies in the EU.

Also, doomism. Yes, the world is in many ways in a bad place, and the decades to come are terribly dangerous. But no, crying "everything is lost" or "we're f....!" averts nothing and solves even less.

Engagement, indignation, action will carry us forward. Doomism will drown us.

The above reminder is as much to myself as to anyone else.

@SuneAuken Have to agree, why would the EU want us back. I think bureaucracy is an issue in Europe but the UK has always been a trouble maker. Until the UK gets PR (not going to happen any time soon) then we are on our own.

@cotswolds

Interestingly, I can come up with many good reasons why the EU would want the UK back. None of them are worth jack at present as long as the UK government remains unreliable. Moreover, they are all in doubt as long as the UK has its lingering imperialism and its absurd class structure. However, they ARE there, and they are really quite strong.

@SuneAuken Would be interested to hear your top five reasons for the EU wanting us back. I assume trade, loosen the German, French dominance, travel for work are among them.

@cotswolds

Oh, that's an interesting challenge. I don't think I can manage a TOP 5, I'm not smart enough for that, but I can manage five very good reasons. So here goes. 1/

@cotswolds

1) Resolve the problems surrounding the border in Ireland and secure peace and prosperity on the island.

2) Resolve the problems faced by EU citizens in the UK.

3) A re-expansion of frictionless trade and free movement (two of yours).

4) Increased global reach and importance. The EU's regulatory sphere expanded.

5) The ideological triumph of a member rejoining after having left.

I can come up with more, but these five seem very good to me. 2/2

@SuneAuken Great list thanks.
Particularly like EU citizens in UK and laws. I can see our laws being relaxed, especially Data Protection. US now look to EU to improve their DP issues. Lets see what others come up with.

Thank You Dr Auken. Feelings of Doom are a perfectly healthy response to the multiple crises facing the world right now. We all have them, what comes next is a choice. We can let our feelings of Doom either cripple us, or motivate us. There are no prizes for guessing which choice leads to even more feelings of Doom.
