If Keir Starmer & Rachel Reeves are going to use the new post-Liberation Day world to to jettison 'old assumptions', the next Q. is which will they be jettisoning?
What would be good would be if their change of course including what we used to refer to as People's QE, a Keynsian stimulus to enhance economic activity by making cash transfers to those on low incomes.
This makes more sense than relaxing mortgage conditionality or cutting benefits, but is it a step too far for Reeves?
