@bkm I want to know the name of the publisher! I worked for a publisher once. I sued them for unlawful labor practices. I won. I want to know if it’s the same company.
@bkm That is disgusting and monstrous. White-Washing History does not work and is not the way.
It'll neer work in this day and age.
@bkm yes, sorry - it will likely work in places like Florida and other areas where these victimization practices are being encouraged.
White-washing history should not be the way, it should not work and it is wrong.
As a parent in this state, of a mixed race child, this shit is scary and terrifying
@TiberiusReigns @Talia_christine
It's absolute insanity. History can't be erased. They can try but will never be successful. Pre-digital age? Absolutely. Now? Never.
I wonder if Americans have any idea how moronic they appear to people in other counties?
Arrogance stops them from caring.
There is such intransigence among Americans. I know it's a big generalization, but you know what I mean, I expect. There seems to be a lack of an ability to think in a critical manner, without resorting to wanting to shoot the place up. Perhaps it's their education system. Or the fact they seem to like Fox News. I find it extraordinary. Either way, it prevents intelligent discourse and consensus. That's pretty dangerous.
@RobHadley @bkm
It *is* our education system.
And healthcare system (including mental healthcare). And the propaganda machine (e.g. Fox “News”). And a false sense of exceptionalism. And a nationwide epidemic of bigotry & racism.
And the stupid AF idea that it is every American’s God-given right to own guns - with zero restrictions.
And ever-increasing wealth inequality (Greed).
@RobHadley @bkm
Some of us do. But not the bigoted imbeciles.
I feel like screaming, “Hey world, we’re not *all* like this. I swear.”
@RobHadley @bkm MAGAmericans don't care what foreigners thing, just so long as they stay on their side of the wall. They will sing the praises of genocidal tyrants so long as they are white, and ostracize and target their victims so long as they are not MAGAvangelicals.
@bkm The goal of leaving out key details of Rosa Parks' story is to make it so innocuous that eventually it is dropped from textbooks entirely.
@MugsysRapSheet @bkm she died in a city that has a prominent road named after her, a pauper. It is a travesty of justice on many levels
@bkm I was the kind of kid that would've asked why did someone want her to move...because I would have seen that as rude.
What are teachers supposed to say when they are asked this question? There is no reason to claim someone has "courage" just for refusing a request.
I swear, the fascists think everyone else are some kind of stupid.
From what I understand, it would be illegal to refer to race (or even gender for that matter now) in explaining it.
@bkm @julescelt01
Well, so much for teaching kids about the Freedom Riders. They didn't take to Interstate travel a la Kerouac. And the racist thugs waiting for them at Southern depots were there for a reason and it wasn't to hand out flowers.
@SharonGibson3 @bkm it's wild how they put the word "freedom" in front of things and think it means something...
@julescelt01 @bkm Do you know who the Freedom Riders were? They didn't use the word the way people used "Freedom fries" because they were mad at the French for not supporting the U.S. in its war against Iraq.
Here's some background on them. https://tinyl.io/876k
That they braved physical assaults just so people could travel the Interstate without being subject to segregation clearly would justify their use of the word, freedom.
#history #histodon #BlackMastodon
@SharonGibson3 @julescelt01 @bkm Teach. This is the effect of No Child Left Behind, that people don’t even know what the Freedom Rides were or why they were done.
@SharonGibson3 @bkm My apologies on not being more clear in my thinking above. My brain was thinking of the "Freedom Convoy" in Canada.
Your link is a good reminder of people who have had to actually fight for human rights.
@julescelt01 @bkm Thank you for your response. I have to confess, I was dismayed and thought, "This woman is clearly educated. Why would she say that?" But you are right about people using terms like freedom (reform is another) to describe something that has nothing to do with freedom.
@bkm quite apart from the whitewashing, this surely makes a mockery of the history. What is the point of Rosa Park’s story if you don’t put it in context of what came before and afterwards.
@bkm Ohhhhhh my aching head.
@bkm Suffer little children a generation of MAGA hate is coming
@bkm holy crap
@bkm when you white wash history, it’s no longer history, it’s just a story.
@bkm
Wait’ll they rewrite WWII to please the #Republicans!
“Hitler was just this brave socialist guy that wanted to make the trains run on time but tried to make the trains in other countries run on time too, and that made the ANTIFA and WOKE countries angry so they invaded Germany.”
@bkm It's a good job that kids love the word 'Why?'
Encourage them to question everything!!!
