It's absolute insanity. History can't be erased. They can try but will never be successful. Pre-digital age? Absolutely. Now? Never.

There is such intransigence among Americans. I know it's a big generalization, but you know what I mean, I expect. There seems to be a lack of an ability to think in a critical manner, without resorting to wanting to shoot the place up. Perhaps it's their education system. Or the fact they seem to like Fox News. I find it extraordinary. Either way, it prevents intelligent discourse and consensus. That's pretty dangerous.

And healthcare system (including mental healthcare). And the propaganda machine (e.g. Fox “News”). And a false sense of exceptionalism. And a nationwide epidemic of bigotry & racism.
And the stupid AF idea that it is every American’s God-given right to own guns - with zero restrictions.

What are teachers supposed to say when they are asked this question? There is no reason to claim someone has "courage" just for refusing a request.

From what I understand, it would be illegal to refer to race (or even gender for that matter now) in explaining it.

Well, so much for teaching kids about the Freedom Riders. They didn't take to Interstate travel a la Kerouac. And the racist thugs waiting for them at Southern depots were there for a reason and it wasn't to hand out flowers.

@julescelt01 @bkm Do you know who the Freedom Riders were? They didn't use the word the way people used "Freedom fries" because they were mad at the French for not supporting the U.S. in its war against Iraq.

That they braved physical assaults just so people could travel the Interstate without being subject to segregation clearly would justify their use of the word, freedom.

@julescelt01 @bkm Thank you for your response. I have to confess, I was dismayed and thought, "This woman is clearly educated. Why would she say that?" But you are right about people using terms like freedom (reform is another) to describe something that has nothing to do with freedom.
@bkm quite apart from the whitewashing, this surely makes a mockery of the history. What is the point of Rosa Park’s story if you don’t put it in context of what came before and afterwards.
