“They want 1939 Germany but they're going to get 1789 France if they keep fucking around.”
only 10 % of Americans knows what happened in France in 1789
and a LOT of parfume !
An interesting thing that few know ....
More people have met the guillotin during Nazism in Germany

They are all important questions
And we could discuss its implications
for days
but to make it short
envy, the needs to bring back order, and the arrival of a populist figure who backed by the army removed 'the breath' from the revolutionary anarchy,
@chiamaluca @benroyce I find that among my American countrymen, there's a deep lack of understanding of the French Revolution that is disquieting as people on this side of the pond begin considering their options for their own deeply-divided national and class interests.
We teach it as "France had a revolution, and then they had liberty." And that is a mistake. It's really important to confront that belief with "The king was executed... And then what happened?"
There's a reason the UK is still a monarchy, and it's not because they never tried anything else. And there's a reason America isn't a monarchy, and it isn't because we were smarter, braver, or more egalitarian than the French or the British.
