In case you don’t believe the same equations govern in the and the .

Video by Tristan Heth in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.

@davidho yes, this is a stunning timelapse. lucky those who've seen it "life" once!

@christoph_STCmicrobeblog @davidho

I was lucky enough to see it from an airplane once, as the clouds hit a mountain and splashed up. It is a vision frozen in time for me. Incredible!

@davidho you can guess the shape of the topography underneath from the motion. Great video.

@davidho yes its very very beautiful, my second land is a paradise

@davidho great photo. I just joined and tried uploading a photo. My phone isn't uploading the image.

@Rosiecuffy @davidho
Rosie, it could be your instance, but I found that once I switched out the Mastodon app for Metatext on my iPhone, my problems were solved. :flower:

@Rosiecuffy @davidho

Did you figure it out yet? On my app, there is a photo icon to add and when I use the web (on my phone or desktop) there is a paperclip for attaching pics, etc.

@davidho es el mar de nubes característico de nuestro archipiélago.

@davidho Tenerife is so cool - so many climates in such a small area!

@davidho even solids are governed under fluid dynamics given a long enough time scale.

@davidho Proving a fluid is a fluid regardless of density.

@davidho I don't know any equations but I pretended I was floating in the ocean. Thank you.

@davidho now can you surf using a hang glider?

@Rty2K
You would sink through the clouds, wich would turn deadly quite fast due to loss of orientation.

You could try a blimp, but then you cannot see whats underneath the clouds and risk hitting an obstacle.

Air traffic laws also do not allow flying that close to clouds.

tl;dr: nope.

@davidho

@davidho I have seen this once. And for me it was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. It was for me something quite similar to the overview effect.

@davidho Wow, this looks like it could be an extension of the painting "Wanderer above the Sea of Fog" by Caspar David Friedrich!

@davidho I think i once saw a paper in which even Mountains were described by Navir-Stokes. Anyway beautiful

@davidho well yes these are waves created by the friction between two fluids, it doesn’t matter which fluids are you can have waves just the same

@davidho The left side of my brain says “what did you expect? fluids are fluids, mate” while the right side is just “WOW”.

@davidho
What impressive things are happening with the clouds and the lights, these days… I saw yesterday that post of photos showing a shadow cast upwards on clouds, right underneath them, around Mt Rainer yesterday !

@davidho

And there was definitely no one standing under the clouds with a fan? Brilliant!

@davidho Do you have an actual video of this? The GIF is a nice preview, but a poor substitute! Thanks.

@davidho Fabulous video. Should be required viewing for middle-school science classes on up.
