I can't help but think they're trying to destroy our habitable planet because they either believe that's the condition under which God will rapture them into heaven, or they think their minds will be uploaded to a supercomputer where they'll live forever. Either way, there's no need for our planet.

@davidho I think they know it is the endgame and they are unwilling to make sacrifices to save the planet. The super rich probably think they can survive it for a while while everything around them collapses. Maybe they even have the perverse idea that - somehow - they will come out better at the other end, maybe that technology will save them or that life in Antarctica can give them a few 1000s more years.

@davidho My personal opinion is that the oligarchs are just trying to kill as many people as they can because smaller numbers are much easier to control, manipulate and manage. It’s as simple as that.

This planet really cares very little about what damage a species who are just a few thousand years young can do to it, earth will change and adapt over the a couple of million years ready for the next dominant species to do its worst. (1/2)

Luckily for the universe it’s doubtful there will be any humans around to witness that though. (2/2)

@davidho For each part of the Alliance of Evils, it's a different thing:
For Mush-for-brains it's the only way to sell people on his doomed martian company town.

I first read 'doomed martian Capetown' 🤣

@androcat @davidho

@davidho No need for evil when there's incompetence to explain it all. With so much money involved and no signal in the feedback, it's yes-men and wishful thinking all the way.

@davidho I was going to argue theology but...

*sigh* Apocalyptic christians do believe that the end of times is a) going to replace the Earth with a new, perfect place where the faithful will live in new perfect bodies, and b) is right around the corner.

So I think you're right :(

@davidho

Ignorance is bliss, and that's what at work here. Many people in the rich, western countries grew up while enjoying a high level of living comfort. This comfort always required the world and its other people to be exploited.

Now this exploitation has reached a level where it actually endangers not only them, but the whole civilization.

Most have realized as much, either consciously or unconsciously, but the reactions vary. A few accepted that radical changes have to be made. A few went into denial. And very many think that someone else should solve the problem for them or that it's not their problem to begin with.

But what the greater majority of them shares is the desire to conserve their high level of living comfort. Which is, given the circumstances, not possible.

@davidho Lest we forget, humans are divided. Between those who think they are right. And those who think they are right. And lest we forget all the other millions of myriad lifeforms... who are undivided.

@davidho
Can’t find the article right now but I remember reading that the coal barons of usa were big into rapture, and rapture in near future. So no need to worry about climate and other dilly dally.
Also, all organized religion is at the root of a lot of evil.

@davidho It's simpler than that, for those making the decisions now there is only one god: Money.
(deals, deals, let's make deals... :/ )

@davidho I think they either think they can pay their way to a habitable area; or they can't see beyond their noses except when money is involved.

@davidho
And think it’s simpler than that. They simply don’t want to think about it. They ignore their imagination. They vilify intellectuals and scientists instead. It’s an effort, but much easier than doing something about the problem.
