@paninid most of us will live to see how robust the institution of the USA are. Right now the benchmark is "war time America", with coordinated propaganda, and severe restrictions of rights and freedoms.

@paninid Yes - this time the potential for mass surveillance, intimidation, or making people disappear is amazing. Good thing they can't force people to carry a smart phone (yet), and there are still used cars on the market that don't have surveillance tech.

So true. Thinking about that era, and remembering The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Tubes, even later Green Day. How overtly political they all were and comparing it to today's lackluster popular music. We need a lot more punk if we are going to get people to wake the hell up to what's happening to the world.

You may be right - what we need is not always what we get. Sometimes we get a substitute. Mass psychology is about leveraging a mass of people against the many needs any individual. Self-assembling masses, where many individuals express a common need, can be subdivided again and again until those individuals, literally, don't count anymore.
This new generation of Punk won't just need to be tech-savvy. I'm only starting to see what else is needed.
