Wann und warum habt ihr damals von einer #68k-Plattform auf nen PC gewechselt? Bei mir war das so um 1992 vom Amiga 2000 mit 68030 und 2 (oder 4?) MB RAM auf einen 486DX50, weil #AmiPro darauf wirklich überzeugender war als alles, was auf dem Amiga in Richtung Text und Layout so lief. Und weil die Picassio-Grafikkarte bei mir nie wirklich stabil mit der Golem030-Karte funktionierte.

Сегодня в центре нашего внимания Sega Mega Drive, она же Genesis — называйте как хотите, всё равно все понимают, что речь идёт о некогда популярнейшей в наших краях 16-битной консоли. Comix Zone, Sonic the Hedgehog, Ultimate Mortal Kombat — вот это вот всё. Но речь пойдёт не о платформе в целом, а об одной специфической её части: звуковой системе и звуках, которые она издавала. Изучим железную и программную части, вспомним холивары, послушаем кое-какую музыку. Как обычно, я занимаюсь не простым пересказом сомнительных источников, а сложным: пропускаю их через личный опыт. Когда-то давно я разработал несколько homebrew-игр для этой платформы, а также пару музыкальных редакторов — ныне забытых, но в определённый исторический период сыгравших свою роль. Этот бэкграунд даёт мне возможность сорвать покровы и рассказать всю правду о некоторых не самых очевидных моментах. Приступим!

Mwah, after asm hacking (6510) I learned Pascal with an "editor", compiler and linker loaded from multiple cassette tapes (one at a time) on my Commodore 64 (more than 40 years ago).
Later I learned 68HC11 asm which was a nice CPU too, slightly better than 6502 (or 6510). Of course the 68000 was a giant step (considering Zilog Z80 and Intel 8080 via 8086 to 80286 CPU's).
Nice to see that there are still people who love to hack low level stuff. The world will keep needing those who understand "basic" building blocks!
Watching a dude program a defunct architecture while listening to shitty 8 bit audio is not my idea of a good time, thanks Hoffman.
Very pleased with myself. My resurrected code for the game I started when I was 19 is now playing music. Megablast as per Xenon 2 of course!

@MrTechGadget Aaah, I tend to forget about enabling 32 Bit still after all these years. And isn’t the IIsi the machine, where you’d setup a 1 MB RAM disk, left unused, with a special driver for the IIsi, to use up the onboard RAM of 1 MB, that’s much slower due to video access, compared to the SIMM slots? What’s the name of that special RAM disk again?
I finally have a working 1.44MB floppy drive in my Mac SE... after two previous failed repair attempts last year 
Spent much of the day cleaning, greasing, and changing out the gears on the eject motor. Unlike the last drive I tried with, this one actually powered up and booted the system. So the SE is off the repair bench and back home on the Tower of Power!
I've amassed quite the collection of broken floppy drives though:
- Mac 800k that originally came with the SE, needs cleaning and a new eject gear
- Mac 1.44MB, mechanically working great but has an electrical fault
- Amiga 880k, needs cleaning, also PCB had a leaky cap and there's corrosion
Also, while I had the SE open, I installed the MacEffects Performer 030 accelerator PDS card and it's a speedy boy now at 16 Mhz. Not as fast as the IIfx but fast enough that I'll probably upgrade it from System 6 to System 7 sometime this month.

The name #Ikarus was given based on stability issues long before it was ported to #Apple #Mac #Computers with #68K #CPU. When #Adobe came up with #PostScript fonts, #TrueType, and their ATM #TypeManager, it wasn't good news for URW. But #AltSys offering #Fontographer way cheaper on #Macintosh was fatal, even without tablet. On top of that #PierreBeziér promoted the cheap competitor.
