When I took the kids to the playground yesterday I started playing this Metroidvania game on my steamdeck that I've had for a while but never played before called #Afterimage , and... Now I can't stop playing 😣 store.steampowered.com/app/170

The hands drawn graphics are gorgeous, the story is interesting though not very deep, and the variety of controls as you slowly unlock new abilities that let you reach new areas and fight more effectively (there are also quite a few weapon types you can use, with their own upgrade maps). And unlike Hollow Knight, Ender Lilies, and some other Metroidvanias I've played, I'm not constantly having to look up where to go next 😅

Prob my final game review of 2024: Afterimage!

This #soulslike #metroidvania is extremely underrated. First, it looks GORGEOUS. The soundtrack is really pretty. The map is HUGE and bursting with challenges and satisfying secrets.

I could complain about the weak voice acting and the kind of insipid heroine, but y'know what? Who cares. Everything else rises above. This is a great game and I'd never even heard of it.
