Ok so this is fucking strange. For some reason, the #AppImage I build for #Benben runs better than the binary I build on my local machine :neopossum_woozy: Like wtf, they should run nearly identically.

I build my AppImages on a QEMU VM running
#Slackware 14.2. My local machine runs Slackware 15.0. Both the VM and my local machine have the same #SBCL version (2.5.7, built from source the exact same way).

I tried recompiling a fresh SBCL, tried building Benben in various ways, even built the AppImage on my Slackware 15.0 machine using the same script I use on 14.2. No change. The AppImage runs better for some reason.

I guess it must be something outside of Benben? Like the PulseAudio libraries that I include in the AppImage or something? Or maybe the difference in GCC versions? Or maybe there was a performance regression in some C library between Slackware 14.2 and Slackware 15.0? But like, I'm seeing it go from 6% to play a FLAC and resample it with sinc-best, down to 1.2%. That's a large drop for a Core i9 10850K.

I am at a total loss right now lol

‹sigh› For like the sixth time, the latest #DoubleCommander snapshot – they come out about twice a week – wouldn't install. I don't know if the autobuild of the #AppImage is going wrong, or if #AppLauncher somehow got borked on my system.

Ah well, #LinuxMint 22.2 should be out soon, and that will mean a fresh install on the next M.2 in rotation, which should fix the problem if it's on my end.

#freecad & #arduino

The use of appimages in Linux is sometimes somewhat cumbersome, for example you cannot simply select the appimage as the default program for opening the corresponding files. But I found a simple solution here: forum.freecad.org/viewtopic.ph and used it with the one change, adrianinsaval mentioned: "It's probably better to place those in the equivalent user level folders (I think it will be ~/.local/share instead of /usr/share)"

Now I can just doubleclick my files to open them in FreeCAD.

A new unstable/development #AppImage for my music player #benben is up :happyremi: This is the work-in-progress v0.7.0. I believe I've added all the missing libraries to the AppImage this time. Downloads and source code are all here: https://chiselapp.com/user/MistressRemilia/repository/benben/wiki?name=Releases
