A brilliant cherry-red Austin Healey Mark 1, vintage 1961, sparkles in the sunshine of memory … a worthy vehicle of fun from years ago. Its perfect proportions and playful face seem to call to us to come and enjoy.

Sending big thanks out to my 11/8 #RedBubble client from Illinois for their purchase of a pair of socks of "Austin Healey" ... hope you enjoy!!!

A day or two back, I posted a photo of the Healy Enigma kit car from this year’s Cambridge and District Classic Car Club show (first pic). This morning, while scrolling through the rest of my photos, I realised I’d also, quite by chance, snapped an example of the original Austin Healey, the car that inspired the Enigma, in the same colour and from the same angle. Compare and contrast!

Today, an other MG record car, the EX179 from 1954. This was mainly used for longer distance benchmarks rather than outright speed record breaking. Using a 948cc version of the then-new BMC A Series engine it sustained an average of 118 mph over twelve hours. Later, re-designated as the Austin Healey EX219 and fitted with a supercharged Sprite engine, this was raised to 147 mph. Snapped at the British Motor Museum at Gaydon.
