Check out the April #drought #outlook from the #NOAA #NWS #Climate Prediction Center.

Good news for some areas, like East TX, OR, UT, and western NE, which should all expect improving conditions and even drought removal. It's not such a happy outlook for the Southern Plains and Florida, nor for the stretch from NC to the Mid-Atlantic that has been drying out these last few weeks.

The remarkable turn of fortune in the #West continued this week with #drought conditions looking as good as they've been in almost two years. Across the region, the extent of drought decreased to 35.6%, down from last year's high of 91%. In Nevada, the extent of drought decreased this week from 80 to 49%. It dropped from 73 to just 29% in Idaho.

U.S. #DroughtMonitor 3-30-2023:

Conditions continued to degrade in TX, Puerto Rico, and parts of the Upper South/Mid-Atlantic. Meanwhile, it was another week of significant #drought improvement for the West, especially in NV and ID. Overall, the extent of drought across the U.S. and Puerto Rico decreased over three percentage points, down to 25.7%. 45.6 million people are now affected by drought.

Conditions in eastern Michigan have improved rapidly these last few months. Just 2.5% of the state remains in #drought, down from over 30% this time last month. The state was cleared of severe drought in early March.

In the short term, extreme dryness intensified across the #Southeast, from southeast #Louisiana to the Mid-Atlantic, and in most of #Texas. Meanwhile, the #Midwest and #West are mostly drenched. Conditions degraded in scattered pockets around the U.S. this week, from the #Carolinas to #Hawaii. But, once again, #drought also improved broadly across the West. Overall, the extent of drought across the U.S. and Puerto Rico decreased yet again, down to 28.9%. 45.8 million people are affected by drought.

#DroughtMonitor Spotlight on #PuertoRico:

#Drought developed in Puerto Rico last week after 6 months of clear conditions. About 4% of the island, centered around the el municipio de Aguadilla in the northwest, is now in moderate drought. Almost 60% is abnormally dry, 4 times what it was just a month ago.

In the short-term #drought blends, extreme dryness expanded in isolated pockets across the Southeast, from South Texas to the Mid-Atlantic. Most of the West and Midwest are still unusually wet. U.S. #DroughtMonitor 3-16-2023:

#Drought continued to improve broadly across the West this week, especially in California. Parts of the Southeast also saw improvement. The extent of drought across the U.S. and Puerto Rico decreased to 29.9%, the first time it has dropped below 30% since Aug. 2020. But dry conditions expanded in Texas, South Florida, and Puerto Rico, and 48.5 million people are still affected.
