The remarkable turn of fortune in the continued this week with conditions looking as good as they've been in almost two years. Across the region, the extent of drought decreased to 35.6%, down from last year's high of 91%. In Nevada, the extent of drought decreased this week from 80 to 49%. It dropped from 73 to just 29% in Idaho.

U.S. 3-30-2023:

Conditions continued to degrade in TX, Puerto Rico, and parts of the Upper South/Mid-Atlantic. Meanwhile, it was another week of significant improvement for the West, especially in NV and ID. Overall, the extent of drought across the U.S. and Puerto Rico decreased over three percentage points, down to 25.7%. 45.6 million people are now affected by drought.

U.S. 3-16-2023:

continued to improve broadly across the West this week, especially in California. Parts of the Southeast also saw improvement. The extent of drought across the U.S. and Puerto Rico decreased to 29.9%, the first time it has dropped below 30% since Aug. 2020. But dry conditions expanded in Texas, South Florida, and Puerto Rico, and 48.5 million people are still affected.
