Cognitive dissonance across the federal enterprise
I’m stunned into near silence over the attempts to reconcile the destruction of normal and healthy federal employment with the idea of selfless service. I have been a productive federal employee for almost 38 years and have had an extremely rewarding career, but what’s happening right now is staggering. I heartily welcome regular and diligent reassessment of the mission, purpose, and execution of every federal agency. And that changes be made as often as needed. But this. There is nothing purposeful or well thought out about any of this. It’s a wrecking ball approach. It’s so sad to see the leadership that remains trying to make sense of it all and act like this is just a bump in the road. I know they don’t really have many other choices. I have been a huge proponent for federal employment as a valid career choice during my years of service, but that won’t continue in the future. I’m afraid it won’t be a place for the best and brightest in the years to come. I don’t think I can recommend it to anyone now. And that just makes me sad for all of us.
