The #Pentagon has to provide #NewYorkTimes information about #ElonMusk #security clearances, a federal judge ruled Wednesday—and the #billionaire own #socialmedia habits helped decide the case. In September 2024, the Times filed a #FOIA #FreedomofInformationAct request seeking “a list of security clearances” granted to #Musk, including “any details about the extent and purview of each of the clearances.” #doge #transparency #accountability #democracy #trump #maga #firing #government #workers

"Last week, conservatives—led by #ElonMusk and #LibsofTikTok—launched an outrage campaign to cancel #Netflix en masse. The uproar began over a years-old kids’ show featuring a #transgender boy coming out to the protagonist—a scene that reflects the reality many children already live in, surrounded by queer and trans people in their communities... Netflix, however, didn’t flinch—and a week later, its stock is up, the boycott a fizzle rather than a firestorm."

THE THOLIAN WEB: Readers of a certain age will remember The Tholian Web. It appeared in a 1968 episode of Star Trek (The Original Series). Captain Kirk was caught between dimensions while Spock and crew rushed to rescue him. At the same time, the Tholians weaved a destructive energy web around the Enterprise.

Fast forward to 2025, and the Tholian Web is real. The checkerboard streaks in this image were photographed by Lorenzo Comolli of Saint Barthelemy, Italy. He was trying to take a picture of Comet Lemmon in September, but as the exposure time increased, more and more Starlink satellites crossed the field of view.

"It seems that the promise of Musk of dark satellites is completely void. They are really bright (2nd and 3rd magnitude)," says Comolli. "This makes me worry for the future quality of the sky."

This interview with the wonderful Jane Goodall – one week before her death – also highlights the spectrum of humanity: from people like the great scientist, who is a role model for empathy and keeps in mind responsibility for the environment and future generations, to people like Elon Musk – at the opposite end of the spectrum – who seem to have lost all of these qualities.
