Denmark 🇩🇰 just passed a groundbreaking law: citizens now own the copyright to their own face, voice, and body.

This is a major win against AI deepfakes and unauthorized digital identity use. The digital self is officially personal property! 💥

“On the advice of various #experts, people are locking down #SocialMedia, deleting #photos and private #messages, removing #FacialRecognition, or even #traveling with #BurnerPhones to protect themselves.

In Canada, multiple public institutions have urged #employees to avoid travel to the US, and at least one reportedly told staff to leave their usual devices at home and bring a second device with “limited personal information” instead.”

The #USA is a failed State.

The Guardian · Burner phones, wiped socials: the extreme precautions for visitors to Trump’s AmericaBy Guardian staff reporter

Intrusive facial recognition is being rolled out by the police without parliamentary scrutiny or public debate.

We need to regulate the use of this invasive and harmful technology before we sleepwalk into a surveillance state rooted in racial bias.

The Guardian · Expert rejects Met police claim that study backs bias-free live facial recognition useBy Vikram Dodd

The Met Police are deploying biased facial recognition at Notting Hill Carnival this weekend.

Last week we joined civil society groups in calling for the plans to be scrapped.

It “unfairly targets the community that carnival exists to celebrate.”

The Guardian · Facial recognition cameras too racially biased to use at Notting Hill carnival, say campaignersBy Rajeev Syal

#Police #Scotland's consideration to use live #FacialRecognition technology is not justifiable & would be a radical departure from force’s policy to police by consent, #SNP members said

A motion, to be voted on by party delegates at upcoming national conference in October, called on #PoliceScotland not to invest in the technology & it should not be allowed in Scotland without primary legislation passed by the #Scottish #Parliament

The Met’s plans to deploy its automated facial recognition system at this weekend’s Notting Hill Carnival has been criticised by Green Party London Assembly Member Zoë Garbett. Zoë told The Voice:

Deploying live facial recognition at Notting Hill Carnival, an event rooted in anti-racist history and Black Caribbean culture, is a shocking and concerning decision from the Met. How is it justifiable that people celebrating their heritage, dancing in the streets, wearing traditional clothing, attending with their family and friends, should be scanned and tracked like potential criminals?

Separately, Scotland Yard has been told by the Equality and Human Rights Commission that its plan to widen the use of live facial recognition technology is unlawful.

Human rights regulator criticises Met's use of #FacialRecognition cameras

The UK's equality regulator has criticised the Metropolitan Police's use of live facial recognition technology (#LFR), saying the way it is being deployed is breaching #HumanRights law.

'but I trust those responsible for the development and deployment of live facial recognition, and compared with other police crime prevention measures, such as blanket, no-suspicion “stop and search”, it is much less intrusive.’

Paddick might have been a whistle blower but he knows f*ck all about facial recognition, it’s pitfalls and misuse.

The Guardian · Met police’s facial recognition plans fall foul of European law, says watchdogBy Rajeev Syal

“Live facial recognition surveillance turns our faces into barcodes and makes us a nation of suspects who, as we’ve seen in Shaun’s case, can be falsely accused, grossly mistreated and forced to prove our innocence to authorities.”
