Paws to TrailWe returned on the walking trail that winds through the forest. There is a little more shade here to protect the snow, but by the end of the trip we could already feel the snow softening up and getting sticky.The wind-driven, sticky snow created a variety of textures and patterns on the trees!We'd had the trail to ourselves, but several people were just getting started when we got back to the trail head. Hopefully the had waxed their skis for warm temperature snow! Paws to TrailPeople who had hit the trail they day before, while temps were still relatively warm, had the joy of slogging through melted slush collected in low spots. The warm earth was melting the snow from the bottom up.Fortunately, the cold snap overnight solidified things, and even the deep slush had frozen solid.We were on our Hok skis, which floated nicely on the surface. Paws to TrailOn the return, we picked up the heavily foot-trafficked trail to Wolf Creek Falls. The end of that trail involves scrambling down a rocky bluff, so we save that for hiking only!Hikers (and likely snowshoers) here followed a single path, which was actually quite good for skiing in! The sides were firm enough to keep your skis pointed forward and the base flat and firm enough for some nice fast glide.
