It has been 10 days since I switched to Linux Mint as my daily OS. There have been some bumps, only one major one (booting to Windows disabled the grub menu so only Windows would boot up, fixed using reFind boot manager). Currently the only thing I can't do under Linux is run Forte Agent which has to be run using Wine. I am sure it is a configuration issue, but I had to boot back to Windows today to run it, which was very annoying due to the painfully slow start-up time.

HUGE EDIT: Linux Mint didn't recognize my Audio Drivers, this morning after waking up and booting up the system. Zero Sound, Troubleshooting didn't do any good as Mint refused to accept the audacity of me using an NVIDIA sound card in 2025. I made another post about how irritating this is. I am only editing this post because I want to keep certain discussions alive and not lose them in the digital void.

NVIDIA sound cards truly don't get any love from many distros aside from Ubuntu, POP_OS, and Fedora...Probably Arch Linux, but I have little interest in working with that host of daemons. I'm just a boy, not a dev or programmer who can translate and command such a beast as Arch. Logging in, doing stuff, and light terminal related stuff is about all I want to do.

I've just realised it's two weeks since I used my Mac.
I have a Mac Mini (M1) and an MSI Cubi running Linux Mint sitting side-by-side, using the same monitor and speakers, so each morning, I make the choice. For the past two weeks it's been the Cubi, without any thought going into the matter. Just an interesting observation, really.

Just signed into a university computer running #Windows for the first time. The last #Microsoft OS I ran was Windows 7 and I have limited experience with later ones. At this point #Debian / #LinuxMint (i.e. #Cinnamon) looks more like Windows XP than current Windows does, which was disorienting. On a fresh account I was immediately asked to set up sign-in using my face and shown ads for #WhatsApp. About what I expected.

Quiero fardar de mi nuevo sistema operativo!! La verdad es que ha sido bastante fácil el cambio a Linux, y además estoy viendo que los juegos van mejor de lo que pensaba.

Quién sabe, quizá le pueda dar esquinazo completamente a Microsoft.

Das erste Mal, dass ich miterleben muss wie sich mein #LinuxMint nach einem fehlerhaften Update einfach nicht mehr reparieren lässt. Alles ist irgendwie abhängig und kann nicht mehr gefixt werden. #ReInstall unausweichlich.

Und jetzt hänge ich daran, alles wieder fit zu bekommen oder ist es Zeit mal eine neue Distro auszuprobieren?

PSA: In case you run #Ubuntu 24.10 with #ZFS on Root, DO NOT TRY TO UPGRADE YET! You are very likely to run into a #Linux kernel deadlock mid-flight during the upgrade which leaves you with a broken system.

Also: Use zfs snapshot before trying to upgrade. zfs-auto-snapshot to the rescue! #openzfs #linuxmint

Upon upgrade to #Windows11, I magically lost the ability to print double-sided. Had it with Windows 10, and it was taken away with 11. I never bothered to dig in and find out why.

Not only did #LinuxMint recognize my printer automatically, I again can request a double-sided print. Huzzah!
