Floodwaters surged through the streets of Parikia and Naousa on Paros, carrying cars and debris past whitewashed buildings.Video footage shot by eyewitnesses and posted to social media channels shows torrents of brown-coloured water coursing through the streets of Naousa. Stricken cars can be seen turned upside down and floating in the water, as well as smashed up against one another. Drone footage also shows the extent of the floods, with most of the town's main roads submerged under water.Firefighters on Paros rescued 13 people

The final port on our week-long 2016 Mediterranean cruise on Royal Princess was to Mykonos and upon arriving we headed off almost immediately by boat to nearby Delos to take a look at this exposed, quiet island littered with ruins and artefacts from numerous extensive archaeological excavations. Truly one of those places that puts you in awe especially in some of the more open areas and away from any other visitors to the island.

We're standing in ancient Greek ruins at one corner of a square space around which there are walls ranging from chest height to twice an adult's height, made from rough stone bricks of a few hues of warm grey and dusky brown. A piercing blue sky forms the backdrop. This space in front of us measures no more than a dozen metres to a side and contains a mostly intact mosaic floor, mostly white or cream, aged by the sun, but while dusty black contrasts to form patterns of curling waves in two border blocks around a central design that's not full enough or easy enough from this angle to make out. There are three stone columns opposite us; one on the corner of the mosaic, one either side on adjacent edges. Each composes of three tall sections, lightly fluted, and each has a simple capital suggesting early age. A few tourists are off to the right side of the roped-off mosaic area reading an information board. It feels quiet and hot here.

For #TravelTuesday this is from the island of Delos, a ferry ride away from Mykonos and highly recommended as a visit for a few hours if you've got any interest in history. The isolation and near-silence and sense of history of this location as you wander across the ground seeing countless ancient ruins dotted everywhere is impossible to convey and really needs to be experienced.

It's a bright, sunny day with not a cloud in the sky. We're standing on generally flat but mildly rough and undulating ground with a slight rise to a low hill in the distance on the left. The far horizon has a low, pale mountainous range. The ground here is dry, peppered with long but brittle-looking grass in hues of browns, oranges, and yellows. Across the ground there are stone ruins of Ancient Greek culture, mostly at ground level and no higher, marking the positions of former roads or buildings, but there are standing artifacts as well. In the foreground there's a statue of a woman in long dress, weathered smooth in areas to remove details, and severed at around chest height. Three grooved, thin columns, each around three metres in height support a lintel of rectangular blocks in the middle ground. A similar column, free-standing, is behind them and positioned so it appears in the gap between the left and middle column of the three in front. It feels quiet, warm, and you're standing in the middle of history here.
