Working to make a game which is very hard to optimize a bit more respectable when it comes to performance. Which is easier said than done. This video is a journey of pain that is optimization in UPBGE ( the game engine chosen for Dani's Race ).

Featuring a new soundtracks for Dani's Race called "Light ...

Prof. José Mário Martínez opens the 1st IMECC Congress with the plenary session Optimization and Hydraulics.

Optimization is an area of mathematics that deals with the minimization of functions and related problems. Problems of this type appear frequently in the natural and human sciences, for example in the process of fitting models to real data. For this reason, Optimization is usually considered “applied mathematics”. In this lecture we will consider the application of Optimization to Hydraulic Engineering problems. This line of research was motivated at Unicamp by the Brumadinho disaster in January 2019. As a result of this event, the CRIAB group (Conflicts, Risks and Impacts associated with Dams) and the Mathematical Engineering subgroup were formed, which have maintained weekly activities and seminars since that date. The flow of water and materials along natural channels is usually modeled by partial differential equations called Saint-Venant equations. The numerical resolution of these equations is extensively analyzed in the literature. However, initial conditions, boundary conditions and parameters intrinsic to these equations are not available, except in well-controlled laboratory situations. This means that solving the equations and finding the unknown magnitudes form part of a single “inverse problem”. Different approaches, with suitable optimization techniques especially motivated by the real problems, will be discussed in this talk.
