Speaker nods towards large changes to Parliament's Question Time

<<When he was Speaker, Lockwood Smith reportedly came to the conclusion that answer actually meant answer, and tried to enforce that rule. It improved Question Time markedly. Sadly, his tenure as Speaker was cut short when the then Prime Minister found him a different role, as High Commissioner to London.>>

Was he moved because he forced the government to answer the question?

Really shallow debate on mental health services on #QuestionTime

Need to recognise effect of 40 years of small government neoliberalism on the possibility of a state funded #NHS - if the British electorate will keep electing these people we probably need to look more at continental-style insurance schemes instead

Watching #QuestionTime from two weeks ago. Many issues raised with #wealthTaxes - principally capital flight, collection, and reduced investment when wealth is taxed. The figures from Adam Smith Institute on rich leaving UK due to taxes quoted.

I’d be interested to know the detail from wealth tax advocates such as Richard Murphy & Gary Stevenson to address these criticisms.

Love it. “What are you doing for mental health? It is 18 weeks to see someone! That is reediculuss”

What’s “reediculuss” there is that you don’t know it’s ridiculous. Up there with def-in-ate-lay. Not even an ‘a’ in the word but it’s the most emphasised vowel. #QuestionTime

As Billy Connolly said (paraphrased): “Anybody who shows a desire to be an MP, should be stopped from becoming an MP”
Utterly self-serving, selfish, out of touch bastards. Every single one. #QuestionTime

#BBCQT has been pretty good tonight. It usually is a lot better when big important things are going on as with this assisted dying bill, but I'm surprised at even Jacob Rees-Mogg seeming human-like tonight.

Next week Alistair Campbell will be on opposite Nigel Farage enjoying his eleven thousandth outing on the show, so I expect it'll be much worse.
