OMFG do NOT lose control of the account that your macOS machine has Activation Lock tied to.

Kid’s 2016 MacBook Pro had some unrepairable disk errors and recurrent crashing. Went to Recovery Mode which accepted his _current_ AppleID to login to reformat the drive and recover from a backup.

But of course the Backup has the original Activation Lock and account. So for whatever reason it absolutely would not make it all the way through a boot up after a full restore.

Tried that a couple different ways and likely full borked the on-disk OS. Somehow got a 171GB “Update” partition that wouldn’t go away.

Along the way managed to get the machine removed from Find My in the current Apple account.

Then back to recovery mode, full erase and repartition disk. Recover over internet, install Sequoia from zero, and now using Migration Assistant from backup to bring everything back together.

Fingers crossed that by morning it’s all happy again.

I’m sure I fucked up somewhere early in the process…quite the adventure. At least we know someone who steals the machine would be S.O.L….

Finally! Whatever part of my brain generates spoons has located a dice seam so any time now the harvesting shall commence & maybe the spoons will be getting replenished tomorrow.

It feels weird only just realising that my spoon tank has been in deficit for a whole week (I knew it was empty) with no access to the raw material (or time/space) needed to make more.

Maybe I'll actually be compos mentis for NYE.

Edited for typo, huge autocorrect blunder & clarity.

Pup has the right idea. We are in rest mode over here. Once all the paperwork from finishing my PhD got completed, I crashed hard. I took a whole week off running. My watch has me in recovery mode. I've been doing yin, restorative yoga, and a lot of meditation. I feel like I need a little physical, mental, and emotional reset. I'm slowly easing back into running. I feel really different. My body feels really different. I am less stressed and anxious. I feel lighter. I'm a month out from the start of my training block for an 80km race in May. I'm really curious about how my body will feel in training when I'm not in the stress mode of a PhD. I'm hoping how light I feel emotionally will translate into fleet feet!
