ArchiveOS<p>RISC OS (Reduced Instrcution Set Computer Operating System) – an OS for desktop computers running ARM processors. RISC OS was originally developed by Acorn Computers Ltd in Cambridge, England has been in continual development since 1989. <a href="https://archiveos.org/risc-os/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">archiveos.org/risc-os/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/operatingsystem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>operatingsystem</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/riscos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>riscos</span></a></p>

Mark Moxon<p>Sometimes it's the small projects that are the most enjoyable.</p><p>Case in point: this month I'm building !EliteNet, which connects the <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Archimedes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Archimedes</span></a> version of <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Elite" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Elite</span></a> to the Econet multiplayer scoreboard, so ArcElite players can compete against <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/BBCMicro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BBCMicro</span></a> players.</p><p>I last wrote a RISC OS application in 1995. That's 30 years ago! Turns out that BBC BASIC V is still a great language to code in.</p><p>And I've never written a RISC OS relocatable module before, so even now, this old dog is learning new ARM-based tricks.</p><p>And… ArcElite! ❤️</p><p>I absolutely love this hobby.</p><p><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/retrogaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>retrogaming</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>retrocomputing</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/riscos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>riscos</span></a></p>
Willard Goosey<p>Last RISC OS icon I created (I think ..)</p><p>This is for ungzip, which does just that. Gavin Wraith's drag-and-drop WIMP wrapper (stick) that runs a trivial perl script that calls the gzip binary.</p><p>This lets me uncompress gzip files from the GUI.</p><p>Stick does the magic of making drag-and-drop happen. The perl script converts a RISC OS filename (foo.bar/gz) into a unix style path (foo/bar.gz) and feeds the path to gzip.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/RiscOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RiscOS</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/Icons" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Icons</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/GZip" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GZip</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/Stick" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Stick</span></a></p>

Willard Goosey<p>This is the first RISC OS icon I made.</p><p>I was working with the last MINIX source release for the NE editor, trying to compile it under RISC OS. I got it to compile but it didn't have the binary blobs needed for RISC OS, like the icon...</p><p>At this point I was still confused about where NE sits in the Cambridge / IBM E editor's family tree, so I created an icon that mimics IBM's look.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/RiscOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RiscOS</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/Icons" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Icons</span></a></p>
