@remixtures
(I need to correct the above post of mine but not enough characters in the original post.)

Actually, it wasn't the "protesters" who were being defended... per se. It was black students like little #RubyBridges who needed protection from both "protesters" AND the government (that was baring their entry.)

Sorry for the (slight) error.

2/2 🇺🇸Ruby Bridges reminds us that none of us walk alone—our journey is built on the sacrifices, determination, and peaceful resistance of those who came before us.

📌The future depends on what we do now. Let’s honor those who paved the way—not just in words, but through intentional advocacy, organizing, and engagement.

On a beautiful morning, a huge crowd of Acacia Magnet School students and parents turned out for the Ruby Bridges Walk in honor of Black History Month.

When she was 6 years old in 1960, Ruby Bridges’ parents volunteered to have her be the first African-American student to attend a segregated public school in New Orleans.

Despite threats so serious that she required the protection of US marshals, Ruby calmly walked past the haters all year to get an education, setting an example for generations to follow. (1/2)

#MtP had an interview with #RubyBridges this morning (first child to integrate public school), and it included the following photo:

Notice the signs touting "#StatesRights". It's what the #CivilWar was supposedly about (the South's right to practice slavery), and it's the argument Southern states used every time to reject The Supremacy Clause.

So when you hear #MAGAts & #Republicans whining about "States Rights" on ANY issue, THIS is where it comes from and what they REALLY mean: #Racism

64 years ago on this day in 1960, 6-year old Ruby Bridges walked into the William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans, escorted by 4 federal marshals and made history by becoming the first African-American child to attend an all-white elementary school in the South.

Her courage and poise paved the way for the fight for Civil Rights and Justice.

From @berniceaking on Dead Bird:

Nov 14, 1960, 6yo bravely walked into William Frantz Elementary School, the 1st Black student to integrate the school in New Orleans, Louisiana. Surrounded by federal marshals, Ruby faced immense hostility, yet her courage & resilience made her a powerful symbol in the fight for racial equality...helped pave the way for & justice in ...[E]ven the youngest among us can be powerful agents of change.

Not so long ago, if parents disagreed with a specific lesson, they had the option to keep their child home from school that day. They still have that right. They should exercise it.
