The other day I posted a link to some of my writing aimed at beginning synthesists. Today, how about a link to some stuff for more advanced synthsters? Here's a post I wrote about one of my favorite sound design techniques: pinging filters!

For this week's Creative Code challenge by @sableRaph: “Must Move”, OffCenteredBlinks Represents various movements both noticeable and subtle that can occur through #SonicPi & #LiveCodeLab.

Celestial Eyes
Must move , they say
Blinking as they reach the lines
The lines of horizon
Looking to see the depths of Poseidon
But till then, they shall Move Each Day

More violin. This time I've applied the new design to my Surge Storm track, so here's the snippet with the violin solo. It also includes my Surge Grand Piano v49.

I'm pleased that the new instrument has tightness and controllability, which lets me throw more virtuoso action into it.

I might try some short snippets of difficult-to-play known pieces, as a further test, which might inform the design a bit more.

@pkirn @dhla thanks! As a longtime fan it was a very interesting read. For people who want to learn, the most important sentence comes right after the quote: “That move from a semantic to a spectral reading of sound informs my approach to thinking about music.”
With a decade+ in the sound industry and over 25y of electronic music practice, that was one of the most important lessons I learned back in the day and give to young sound designers today.
