I think, in general, a lot a human #superstition, #rituals, and basis for #religion is derived from the movement of #celestial bodies.

“No line of horizon was visible; the dead white colour of the water close to the ship as it increased in distance from her very gradually brightened until, where I supposed the horizon to be, it assumed a silvery aspect, which increasing as it ascended became brilliant and dazzling towards the zenith, obscuring the stars and clouds which had before this visitation been distinctly visible.”
A similar tale unfolds over the course of dozens of collected entries. Some mariners threw fireballs into the ocean to literally test the waters, and many crews reported that tiny “animalcules” were seen under microscopes in buckets drawn up from the milky seas.
Starting to pull together more tracks to go with the dialect recordings I did last year - aiming for an albums worth...
This is a demo I did a while back that's On The List...

One of my clients has _exactly_ 13 registered domains in their AWS Route 53 service. Thirteen!
I advised them to either get rid of one or register a new one—otherwise, bad luck might strike.

OTD, only 100 years ago, March 13, 1925.
Tennessee, USA, legislature enacted what was called Butler Act:
“Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Tennessee, That it shall be unlawful for any teacher in any of the Universities, Normals and all other public schools of the State which are supported in whole or in part by the public school funds of the State, to teach any theory that denies the story of the Divine Creation of man as taught in the Bible, and to teach instead that man has descended from a lower order of animals.”
Less than three months later, high-school teacher John T. Scopes was charged with violating state law by teaching Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution.
The law was repealed only in 1967.
Is anything changed there?

Are you superstitious? Even if they don't realize, some cultural habits and unconscious beliefs can sneak in, like a ladybug.

Does anyone else here know the superstition that if you say "rabbits rabbits rabbits" on the first day of the month you'll get a gift before the month is over?
Learned it from my Grandmother, who was born in Scotland.
No, sorry, you don't get to choose the gift you want.
"Superstition" is a song by American singer-songwriter #StevieWonder. It was released on October 24, 1972, as the #leadSingle from his fifteenth studio album, #TalkingBook (1972), by #Tamla. The lyrics describe popular #superstitions and their negative effects. #Superstition reached number one in the U.S. #Billboard #Hot100 in January 1973 and on the soul singles chart. It was Wonder's first number-one single since "#FingertipsPt2" in 1963.

3 AM, sitting up on couch, awake, blanket over me.
Sip of espresso.
Silence.
No.
I listen.
Air purifier hiss. Solitary car rumble on highway. Cat shifts on his cat tower by window. Distant machinery. Stomach gurgle. Ever-present tinnitus ringing. My own breathing.
My superstitious belief is, if I sit here, the dull nightmares will leave me, float over to the window to peek out at the night.
I'll quietly ditch them, creep away, back to bed, sleep unimpeded.
