I love living in Syracuse in the winter... at least when I work from home and don't need to leave the house regularly. Yesterday I cleared 4-6 inches of wet, heavy snow. This morning I cleared the fresh 12-16 inches of fresh light fluffy lake effect snow that fell overnight.

What's not to love?

A view out the window. There's a big drift of snow on the flower box, and the whole neighborhood looks like a winter wonderland.

A view out of the just-opened garage door. There's a clean vertical wall of snow where it has drifted against the door.

A selfie of a middle-aged man standing in a recently cleared driveway. He's wearing a Behemoth hoodie that's generously dusted with snow... as is his hair.

Syracuse in the first days of February ten years ago. We were very lucky with the weather, a mix of rain and sunshine. The Mediterranean climate in Winter maybe isn't what most tourists prefer but it was perfect for us.

A narrow paved allay in the town of Syracuse in Sicily with green potted plants at both sides. Soft light is reflected from the wet pavement from the low winter sunlight illuminating the upper floors of the houses to the right. Balconies with iron balustrades of different style just overhead.

My favorite part of winter in #Syracuse is shoveling 3" of slush out of the driveway, more like 8" at the end by the street, and it has the mass density of liquid water.

Second favorite is a leak opening up in a 6 month old roof.
