The modern concept of “hospitals” developed out of a need to centralize care resulting from industrialized warfare.
So much of our modern society is vestiges of the Industrial Revolution (school bells condition children for factory work!) and we just never evolved the #institutions.
The future of #healthcare is in the home and that breaks business models, talent, training, supply chain, logistics, etc.
“Late stage capitalism” is a euphemism for #ThingsFallApart.

I’d have to find it, but there was an article in the WSJ about #innovation in the #insurance industry and it boiled down to “#reinsurance for the people”…democratizing that business model because regular carriers were pulling out of certain spaces due to adverse selection.

Listening to S2 of #ThingsFallApart. I love Jon Ronson, but I do not know how he remains calm listening to these people talk straight up bullshit at him.
Anyway, this evening’s culture. Podcasts started with #Tailenders, a loosely #Cricket based podcast, which I find immensely enjoyable. Think we need to grow the cricket community here in the Fediverse, it is one thing I do value on Birdsite. Also #ThingsFallApart, a special by Jon Ronson from the Hay Festival on BBC Sounds. It was a great series about the often surprising origins of the Culture Wars and this was a nice chat to accompany it - and reveal another series is coming.
All the drama and news coverage about what’s happening at the bird place is exhausting. Let the wealthy man destroy his site already without amplifying the outrage. It’s unimportant. #thingsfallapart #letitbe #thereisamountain

The other massively important resource is Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe.
For once Mr.Achebe is a cornerstone of modern African literature. And for all the successes of Black American literature, African literature is a very different depth and reach.
And also Things Fall Apart confronts you not with abstract morals, but it's full of specifics. Customs, phrases traces of which you spot in diaspora. Vibes you recognise elsewhere.
