Although wolves use varied vocalizations to express themselves, howls are certainly the most popular.
Just like us, each wolf has a unique voice so distinctive features of each individual’s howl allow wolves to identify each other.
If you listen carefully to Silas + Nikai, you'll notice that their howls are unique yet somehow come together to create the most beautiful music.

German officials hosted a #wolf summit to discuss wolves. Livestock organizations vehemently protested any protection of wolves, stating instead that they would like to hunt wolves and see them eliminated from Germany.
But most people and prominent conservation figures are highlighting the lack of scientific evidence supporting a hunt and also calling out the hypocrisy of Germans wanting to ban trophy hunting in other countries but not their own.
Last week, the US House Natural Resources Committee voted in favor of HR 764, Lauren Boebert’s legislation which seeks to permanently remove federal ESA protections for gray wolves in the lower 48. The full House could take this bill up within weeks.
Five other bills & resolutions that threaten to undermine the ESA were also passed, including HR 1245 & HR 1419, which seek to remove federal ESA protection for 2 populations of grizzly bears.

One of the most beloved matriarchs at the Wolf Conservation Center turns 15 today - join us in wishing Mexican gray wolf Rosa a happy birthday!
We've had the privilege of witnessing Rosa grow from a newborn pup into the intelligent, loving, and fierce wolf that she is today. Her tenacity inspires us, and we're so thankful that her children were raised by this powerful female - they will be better wolves because of her.
We love you, Rosa!

Federal employees killed an endangered Mexican gray wolf.
Affectionately named Rusty by a middle school student in a nationwide contest, the wolf was killed on April 12, leaving behind his likely pregnant mate and several yearling pups.
Get this... The Service quietly authorized the killing on March 29, 2023 – on the day marking the 25th anniversary of Mexican wolves’ return to the wild.
Raising pups is a family affair, so it is natural for all the wolves to pitch in!
Older siblings help out by regurgitating food for young pups; they'll also protect and babysit them. While pitching in, wolves will learn critical parenting strategies and techniques from their parents for when they have pups of their own.
Passing down knowledge from one generation to the next allows families to maintain traditions unique to their pack.
