Re-promoting this somewhat recent blog post for Global Accessibility Awareness Day.

Aside: React isn’t my first choice for making things on the web, but since I have to use it at work I hope this post helps others who use it pay attention to & think more on a11y. I screwed up modal dialogs the first part of my career and didn’t realize the harm that can do to people with disabilities using the web. Thankfully, now I know better.

A geographic map of the city of Oakland, California, centered on downtown. The map's extent spans the San Francisco Bay to the west, the cities of Berkeley and Emeryville to the north, the Oakland hills to the east, and the city of Alameda to the south. The map depicts the road networks and names of various cities and neighborhoods, predominantly in the East Bay area. It includes a topographic shaded relief rendering of the rugged Oakland hills.

Oh, neat. I was wondering how they'd do this.

> The Window Switcher tool makes it easy to switch windows in desktop mode with just a couple keystrokes. To use the Window Switcher, press dots 4-5-8-chord and wait a few moments for the Window Switcher tool to open. Window Switcher presents a list of currently open windows and announces the currently active window Your cursor will be placed on the currently active window. Use dot-4 chord to scroll through the list of windows and press enter (dot 8) or space to select the window you would like to move your focus.

I hate how predictable the monkey brain is. I keep getting caught up in the mindless scrolling of YouTube/Imgur. I know it's not worth my time, but my brain still will get caught up in the mindless scrolling. Guess it's time to delete YouTube from my phone again.

It's frustrating, because it's _better_ for me to watch on the app (closed captions), but then I get caught up in machinations I'd rather avoid.

Hello all!

In celebration of Global Accessibility Awareness Day (#GAAD), I'm freeing up some time tomorrow for small conversations of about 20 minutes.

So if you have a question about mobile iOS app #accessibility, or if you just want to have a quick chat on some accessibility topic, let me know!

Please use the hashtag #AltText if you add it to your photos. I know I am missing lots of described images because the hashtag isn’t used. I follow it and would love to find all those pictures that are described. Of course, if you use the hashtag and do not add a description, I’ll mute you. 🤷‍♀️ I’m blind and images without descriptions are a waste of my time and the time of many others. #AltText #Blind #Accessibility

John Amato raises critical questions about accessibility technology advancements, focusing on Apple's venture into brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) for those with disabilities. These brain implants could revolutionize control over devices, yet concerns about Musk's influence and a shifting regulatory landscape pose significant risks. The future of FDA approvals remains unclear, making this topic essential for tech enthusiasts and advocates alike. #accessibility pop quiz: what do you expect this button to do, and what does its current state represent?

`<button aria-pressed="false">Save 19% when you pay annually</button>`

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you answered that it toggles between monthly and annual billing, and the current state means that monthly is selected, you are a reasonable human being. But also wrong.

What it actually does, on the Dropbox Upgrade page at least, is take me to an HTTP/403 page. The controls to select between monthly and annual billing are after the buttons, and the annual option was already chosen.

Essentially the toggle button is not a button at all, let alone a toggle for something. My best guess is that it was implemented (badly) as some sort of hover/focus tooltip trigger, and nobody actually thought about what would happen if it was pressed. Why it takes users to a new page resulting in the HTTP/403 is still a mystery.
