ap-components

I want to share some information about a repository we just published. ap-components is a set of Web Components for building interfaces for the ActivityPub API. I built it as I was making a sample application for handling the acct: URI scheme. I found myself making more and more components for the UI, and realised that they would probably be useful for other applications, too. The library is available on npm at @socialwebfoundation/ap-components. It currently covers some of the simplest […]

First 100: BadgeFed Explorer

The verified Badge was issued to @Gwilym Griffith-Jones

You ventured into uncharted territory and helped shape the BadgeFed project from the start. As one of the first 100 testers, your curiosity, feedback, and bug-finding instincts helped stabilize the platform. The fediverse will always remember your role in getting us off the ground—one crash, typo, and glorious bug report at a time.

Earning Criteria: Awarded to the first 100 individuals who actively participated in the early testing phase of BadgeFed. This includes exploring the platform, submitting feedback or bug reports, and generally poking around where things probably weren’t ready yet. These badges are limited—no retroactive claims, no reruns, no exceptions. You were here. You mattered..

You know how we look back on the birth of indie subcultures as the coolest thing ever? Or the really early days of the web? To be there, to be part of it?

That's how I think of #ActivityPub and what's happening around it. Anti corporate. Anti sell-out. It frustrates me that people don't feel that. That anybody is ok with VCs trying to get in on that with ATproto. It's like the major labels sniffing around Seattle. You're not here for what it means to people, but how it might make you rich.

(1/2) Good news, everyone!

Seit Anfang Mai bin ich Fellow bei einem wegweisenden Programm von Media Lab Bayern, SWR X Lab und Mastodon:

Reinvent Social Platforms!

Gemeinsam wollen wir dezentrale, nachhaltige #SocialMedia stärken. Mit #Fediverse und #ActivityPub experimentieren. Medienmenschen an Bord holen. Innovative, attraktive Lösungen für journalistische Herausforderungen finden.

Falls ihr auf diese Themen auch Bock habt: Meldet euch sehr gerne bei mir. Ich habe viele Fragen. Und Ideen.

We're planning to reorganize our #GitHub labels to better reflect #Fedify's project structure! 🏷️

Currently using GitHub's default labels, but we want something more tailored to our needs—like component-specific labels (vocab, federation, actor, etc.), runtime tags (Deno/Node/Bun), and #ActivityPub compatibility tracking.

The proposal includes hierarchical labeling with categories like:

  • type/ for bug, feature, documentation
  • component/ for different parts of Fedify
  • activitypub/ for interop issues with Mastodon, Misskey, etc.

We'd love your thoughts! What labels would be most helpful for contributors and maintainers?
