I had never seen an owl in the wild, then, one day I was standing near the edge of a pond, the area popular with bird watchers. Off in the distance, sitting in a tree along the pond, seemed something too big to be any of the birds I had been watching. "Is that a...?" Then, it took off, flew towards me! I froze. It landed in a branch next to me. We kept company until it finally saw something snack-worthy on the ground, swooped down, then flew off with its catch.

a Barred owl visited my deck 3 times over the course of a week. I was so surprised each time, and was lucky enough to follow his flight path the one day where he perched in a spruce tree within sight for the entire afternoon. (1/2) Out walking yesterday with my wife, I spotted what I'm pretty sure is a #BarredOwl perched on a branch about twenty feet away from us. Her attention was mostly focused on the pond nearby, but we definitely caught a cautious glance from her.

If was really something special to see the bird just doing her thing, probably waiting for a frog to snack on.
