From the Creator of ‘#Succession,’ a Satire of #Tech’s #FarRight

…“Succession” creator Jesse Armstrong…new movie, “#Mountainhead,” …He wrote the script, about grandiose, nihilistic tech #oligarchs holed up in a mountain mansion in Utah, in Jan & Feb, as a very similar set of oligarchs was coalescing behind #Trump’s inauguration. Then he shot the film, his first, over 5 wks this spring. It premieres on Sat on #HBO.

The point is that the person I'm replying to is bringing to the "fediverse" the
very worst of Twitter.

Her
entire usage of the Fediverse seems to amount to emphatically writing, in the #most #vapid #sort #of #language, about how she's... using the Fediverse to write about how she's using the Fediverse to share about how she's using the Fediverse to...

...ah, right: to escape from (and I quote) "the
#broligarchy" and "right-wing #haters".

One would not suspect an ulterior motive, were it not for the fact that, according to her WIkipedia page, she "is the founder and editor-in-chief of a now-defunct website that aims to provide 'positive role models' for young girls" and founded "a platform empowering companies and organizations with innovative tools to measure the gender gap", as well as having self-produced a "documentary about the marketing of unattainable beauty ideals around the world" so maybe it's a bit of a serial thing?

I didn't want the Internet and I certainly don't want the Fediverse to be captured by this kind of individual.

In other words, I think the individual in question is a very refined sort of (political) spammer and profiteer.

I would ordinarily just ignore the post, but renotes occasionally catch me off-guard.

I do apologise for that, a grownup ought to be able to ignore.

If Elon Musk had only 300 million dollars we wouldn't have to care what he thinks. But because we didn't tax billionaires enough...

"Now they have so much wealth that their bad ideas have a gravitational force that can bend society."

“If you want to know how Banks views capitalist tech billionaires, you don’t have to hunt very hard. In the Culture series, a capitalist tech billionaire is the literal devil, only he couldn’t be bothered to build hell himself.”

Vox · Why does Elon Musk love this socialist sci-fi series?By Constance Grady

“We are witnessing, in real time, a government whose relationship with tech giants is far too cosy and far too uncritical. Ministers seem content to accept at face value the glossy marketing promises of Palantir, Microsoft, Amazon and Google—apparently uninterested in subjecting those claims to rigorous scrutiny.”

Democracy for Sale · Starmer’s Big Tech lobbying problemBy Peter Geoghegan

This week I talked with my students about "eugenics" - a term most of them were not familiar with. So I did a bit of research and stumbled on this new #OpenAccess book, which, I think, might be interesting to some of you: "Predatory Data. Eugenics in Big Tech and Our Fight for an Independent Future"

@tante that is intentional!

That's why they are transmisogynist and racist POSes: They don't accept or even tolerate people who are more intelligent, more confident or just flatout better than them!

They don't want people to be able to #DIY or #repair or have any #knowledge, but to take the #Enshittification as "law of nature" and being dependant on an "Oracle" as a fact of life.

One thing people might ignore about the #broligarchy & #conservatism today is it’s shoehorning of the fascist impulse of #purity onto technology.

We see this impulse particularly applied to #ai, with calls for #deregulation approaching religious fervour.

We see it in transhumanism, tescrealism, network state, pretty much all of it.

Purity is another way of saying; only our tribe is good enough to reap benefits. But most importantly it is a domain of no #consequences. The holy item of #fascism

Team meeting this morning to do some filming for #EleFediVideos & to discuss the next steps. An issue that came up beautifully illustrates the power of the #Fediverse & decentralized social media.

The 1st video introducing the Fediverse to people not familiar with it will discuss Silicon Valley's #Broligarchy.

#YouTube could take down the video if offended right wing people complain about it.

But if I upload the video to #PeerTube... who are you reporting the video to? To ME! I'm the admin 🤗

"The crisis in journalism is part of the crisis in information which underpins the crisis in democracy which are all a result of the revolution in communication brought about by new technology platforms. All of which is fuelling the far-right populist politics that are spreading across the world. Now being supercharged by Trump."
