Two little felt moths held in my hand, overlooking some gardens. One moth has open wings. It is purple with yellow highlights. The smaller one has closed wings and is toned town yellow, brown and green.

nahaufnahme. ein lederlaufkäfer labt sich an einer toten nacktschnecke. die elliptischen deckflügel des großen schwarzen käfers sind lederartig genarbt, daher der name, und in den vertiefungen dieser struktur hat sich lehm abgesetzt. auch am umgebördelten rand von deckflügeln und halsschild hat sich heller lehm angesammelt und betont diesen. die nacktschnecke rechts ist ziemlich schmutzig, mit erde verklebt und auch rundherum ist neben pflanzenresten alles sehr erdig beige-braun.

Es hat zum Glück endlich etwas geregnet. Und sofort muss man beim Waldspaziergang aufpassen, wo man hin tritt.
Es darf aber gerne noch etwas weiter regnen, immer noch ganz schön trocken alles. Die Kröte habe ich lieber mal ein Stückchen weiter zur nächsten Pfütze mitgenommen, die saß etwas verloren in der prallen Sonne.

hier mal so etwas wie eine kleine gute nachricht: dieser scharlachrote plattkäfer Cucujus cinnaberinus galt vor gar nicht allzu langer zeit als vom aussterben bedroht, seit den 2010er jahren erholen sich aber die bestände

auf einer grau verwitterten holzoberfläche krabbelt ein auffällig roter käfer länglicher bauform. die deckflügel sind abgeflacht, etwas metallisch glänzend rot, leicht längsgerillt, hinten abgerundet, aber vorne am übergang zum mittleren körperteil völlig gerade, rechtwinklig abgegrenzt. das mittlere körpersegment und der kopf sind etwas dunkler rot und irgendwie knubbelig, das mittelteil hat eine eingedrückte rinne oben in der mitte. es ist schmaler als der hinterleib mit den deckflügeln, auch ein wenig schmaler als der kopf, der trapezförmig nach vorne zuläuft und dunkler wird, die mundwerkzeuge sind fast schwarz. auch die beine und fühler sind schwarz.

There was another assassin bug on the next tree over, also clearly mid-molt, though for the life of me I couldn’t figure out what part of its body I was actually looking at. Then I examined it from another angle and I realized it was hanging upside down, with its head tucked into its chest! #insects #bugphoto #bugstodon

Normally, the adult yokozuna assassin bug is black. But when it first molts it’s apparently a bright cherry red! I learned this when I witnessed an assassin bug molting on one of our work trees this week. #insects #bugphoto #bugstodon

An adult yokozuna assassin bug (Yokozuna-sashigame-mushi) on a tree trunk. It has a narrow, glossy black body with black and white ridges (they almost look like ruffles) along its back. It also has a narrow face with a long, sharp beak.

Another Yokozuna assassin bug, but this one is newly molted and its legs, abdomen and head are all bright red. Even its folded-up wings are red (albeit transparent).

The same just-molted bright red assassin bug, this time photographed from the side so you can see its proboscis in all its curved beaky glory.

A black-and-white weevil clutching a plant stem. It has a pair of horn-like lumps at the end of its abdomen and another much smaller pair at the front end of its thorax. Its snout…how can I describe its snout? It is bulbous, saddle-shaped. It looks like the heel of a god damn Fluevog shoe. How is this creature real.

ganz anders dieser winzige #WeevilWednesday - blattrandkäfer der gattung sitona, dessen bild braucht wirklich nicht viel speicherplatz ...
ich mag rüsselkäfer, auch die denen man es gar nicht so ansieht dass sie dazu gehören :3

sehr kleiner ausschnitt mit geringer auflösung, makro mit anführungszeichen. auf heller haut krabbelt ein längliches käferchen, hinterleib wie ein reiskorn, mittelteil und kopf so ähnlich, aber zusammen nur halb so groß. hellgrau-dunkelgrau längs-gestreift, aber unscharf, insbesondere auf den deckflügeln hinten. der kopf ist eher stumpf rundlich, wenig verlängert wie bei anderen rüsselkäfern

naja, nicht ganz quadratisch, aber doch erstaunlich rechtwinklig, findet ihr nicht auch?

nahaufnahme, makro. auf einer hellgrünen, wie beschichtet aussehenden blattoberfläche sitzt ein schwarz-gelber marienkäfer mit der für marienkäfer typischen halbkugelform. das schwarze fleckenmuster auf gelbem grund besteht auf den deckflügeln aus je einem viereck oben links und oben rechts, dazwischen steht eine art christliches kreuz, dessen fuß nach links und rechts unten wie in eine anker-form ausschwingt. das alles so, dass viele annähernd rechte winkel auftauchen und im gesamteindruck eine art kreuzung zwischen schachbrettmuster und clowsngesicht entsteht. der größere schwarze fleck auf dem halsschild des käfers wäre dann frisur oder mütze des clowns

'wenn es frühling wird'

kommen die ölkäfer raus und krabbeln vor allem auf den wegen gut sichtbar herum, verlassen sich offenbar ganz auf ihre giftigkeit

nahaufnahme eines eigentlich schwarzen, aber dabei auffällig metallisch blau schillernd glänzenden insekts, das über mit zerfallenden blättern vom letzten herbst und alten holzstückchen bedeckten waldboden krabbelt. es ist ein käfer, hat aber eher die körperform einer ameise mit übergroßem hinterleib. die 3 körperteile kopf, thorax und hinterleib sind sehr stark voneinander abgegrenzt und das mittelteil, der thorax, ist sehr klein, kleiner als der ziemlich runde kopf, sieht dadurch aus wie ein hals. der hinterleib ist sichtbar aufgebläht, die kurzen deckflügel bedecken nicht einmal ein viertel davon und die übergänge zwischen den hinterleibssegmenten sind matt und sehen weich aus, ganz anders als die metallisch glänzenden und hart aussehenden mittleren bereiche

It got back down again from the basil pot but it was pretty difficult so I made a ramp with an #openSUSE stuffed Geeko as it should have a good texture for grip and a spare headphone ear cushion for stability for the next time.

Without my glasses I thought that this was some weird dirt clump on the floor that I was about to sweep up, until I saw it moving (very slowly, I don't think it can fly right now). It's having a drink of sugar water from a jar lid and hopefully it'll perk up.

jetzt seht euch diese schönheit an, die da auf dem weg krabbelte
eine Haus-Feldwespe Polistes dominula, eine sehr verträgliche wespenart, ein nützling, auch wenn ich diese so menschenzentristische einteilung eigentlich ablehne. die tut einem jedenfalls für gewöhnlich nichts, das ist auch nicht diese hartnäckig-aufdringliche sorte die unbedingt was von deinem kuchen haben will

nahaufnahme, makro, quadratischer ausschnitt. auf hier aus der nähe sehr grob erscheinendem straßenbelag krabbelt eine wespe von rechts nach links. sie hat eine sehr klare schwarz-gelbe zeichnung, am hinterleib geringelt, am mittelteil (thorax) mehr schwarz, kleinere gelbe punkte und striche. ihre flügel sind in sich der länge nach zusammengefaltet, erscheinen also sehr schmal und stehen im 45°-winkel nach hinten außen oben vom thorax ab. die beine sind ein wenig oranger als das gelb der körperzeichnung, die recht dicken fühler nochmal deutlich mehr.

Met this little chap at Skylark. No bloody idea what he is. What a fluffy little bum he has! Look at it! Such floof. Wow. It's like the golden retriever of hovering insects.

Look at the size of his proboscis! Ravishing that little flower.
