I'm not a Depeche Mode fan- this has just a BIT of that feel (with less in your face vocals and a cooler, weirder vibe, in my opinion), or maybe Gary Numan, Coil, or Throbbing Gristle vibes sometimes. The Soft Vein vocals are kinda purposefully low/obscured too, to make em almost like another instrument, not always easy to make out lyrics, even, and I DIG it. Dark, dancy, catchy, great synths.
Got a great one for the first #MusicWomenWednesday of 2025. Wrote last year about finding bands via other bands- happened again. Been listening to coldwave/darkwave lately. After following (recent favorite) Soft Vein on Instagram, I saw he's playing a show with a band called Milliken Chamber. WOW. Milliken Chamber is a duo from Los Angeles. Catchy, dreamy subtle melodies, pulsing beats & synths. EP from 2017, LP from 2019:

Amazingly, here's another one I almost missed this year-- another that might've made my favorite 20 albums of 2024 if I'd caught it earlier. This is a KILLER synthpop record along the lines of Ladytron, etc.
GLASS SPELLS are a duo from California and singer Tania Costello even almost has a Stevie Nicks or 80s kind of vibe to her vocals sometimes. Love this new LP 'Crystals' of theirs from earlier this year, and it's perfect for the final #MusicWomenWednesday of 2024.

Evidently AJ Lee and Blue Summit has been around for a few years but the band is a new signing to the Signature Sounds label. Signature Sounds, for me, has had its best success, in recent times, with veteran acts. Examples include Eilen Jewell, Brennen Leigh, and Chris Smither. So, the fresh faced Blue Summit may mark a nod or even a return to the early days of Signature Sounds.
"Hillside," the teaser track available now at Bandcamp, is really encouraging. After the knowing and very pretty soloing on the verses, the density of the harmony on the chorus took me by surprise. I definitely like it. The song ends a little soon; but then again, we don't have the show biz expression, "Leave 'em wanting more," for no reason.
Five Stars for the great promise this group shows.

"I Wanna Love" is the first California Honeydrops recording I heard knowingly. I liked it enough to seek other tracks. My favorite so far may be a live recording of "Pumpkin Pie," which I expect to get to later. It lives up to the group's Bandcamp motto: - "The California Honeydrops don't just play music -- they throw parties."
Meanwhile, "I Wanna Love" is the record that first caught my interest.
