It took a long time, but now that my finances will mostly be stable...I got a reoccurring subscription for Mozilla VPN, Filen (the open source cloud storage which has a Linux desktop app in RPM, Deb, and AppImage formats). Mozilla's VPN is affordable at $9.99 a month, since I keep my expenses low, it won't break the bank!

Filen instantly accepted the upload for a Bibisco Backup, making me super happy! I decided to pay for the 200GB plan, which is a mere $2.30 in US Dollars. Once I switch back to Android, I will be using Filen for all of my needs. Hopefully, I can get all my data out of iCloud when that time arrives...

Confused by cloud storage types? In this episode, we break down the three major models—File, Block, and Object Storage. Learn how each works, their ideal use cases, performance differences, and when to choose one over the other for your cloud architecture. Whether you're a tech enthusiast or an IT pro, this is your guide to smarter storage decisions.

So, when I have the time, energy, and resources, I'll integrate my Mastodon instance with my separate S3 object storage system. The provider is a Malaysian company, and yeah, this Mastodon server can be very Malaysian, except for the VPS, which is hosted in Singapore, lol. Also, the DNS hosting is provided by the legendary, old good company.

I am experiencing burnout solely because of trying to configure S3 in my Pixelfed admin panel, and I am a noob at S3 configuration. It feels like I don't know what to say to the panel, even though I have already paid for the object storage credits, and it is charging me hourly even though I don't have a bucket. I wish there were magic; I wish somebody could help me.

For now WebUI.

If only the #desktopclient on #Linux would have on-demand files (where all folders and files are visible in file explorers, but items only get downloaded on the spot when requested and uploaded when finished).

But then, I don't know any cloud storage that has this in their Linux desktop client, despite it being so normal on Windows. Whoever gets this working first will have a real game-changer!

Here's what I use:
#Computer #OS: #Linux
#Browser: #VivaldiBrowser
#Messaging: #SessionMessenger (mainly #European, service nodes are everywhere)
#Email: #ProtonMail and #VivaldiWebmail
#MapApp: #CoMaps
#Office: #LibreOffice
#CloudStorage: #Filen_io and #ProtonDrive
#TranslationApp: #DeepL
#AIChat: #MistralAI
#ImageEditing: #GIMP
#Blogging: #VivaldiBlogs
(I especially like that #SessionMessenger is entirely #FOSS, unlike #SignalApp)

I hope this helps :)

P.S. Please ask if there's something I missed. I tried to put here the most used types of tools, but maybe I forgot some

So, since I am wounding down my own company, and the Office 365 licenses will expire, I need to find alternative, and non-US based, cloud storage. I have whittled the options down to pCloud vs. kDrive. Anyone care to comment on these choices?

Sooooooo, people, a "cloud" storage provider that offers data encryption (no one without a key can't access the files) - which would be better, Tresorit, Jottacloud or Internxt? (Honestly I'd prefer Jottacloud but I'm open to other options.)
I don't think I really *want* self-hosting my own "remote drive", as I struggle with, for example, encrypting/decrypting a WebDav "vault" on Android (and I don't want to pay for Cryptomator).
