#BlueSky is the new Thing I Can't Look at Before Bed (and/or Without Medication)
I know my #doomscrolling has gone far enough when my #bluesky "what's hot classic" thread starts showing me thirst trap images that seem to target gay men.
Far too much hair and weiners (understand rage at unsolicited pics very clearly) for my sensibilities
I'm not sure how the algorithm is figuring this, blocking them repeatedly doesn't make it stop. Maybe it's my support of lgbtqia+ folk? Is it my hatred for web3 and crypto, maybe following trans community folk, baffling
For the life of me I can't figure it out

Mastodon is functioning very well as a news source. A handful of bloggers, Le Monde and Tagesschau.
A sign of the maturity of the platform.
I want to be informed. I don't want to be swamped or to get sucked in.
Enough else in my life and interests counterbalances the hot take of the moment. I am lucky that I have a high tolerance level.
#Instagram, #TikTok, #Youtube short video formats in context of their #UX #darkpatterns are the new #cigarette. Each short video releases sweet, sweet #dopamine without end or safety measurements. The drug dealers of those content platforms abuse users in search for connection and escapism for their own capitalistic and political agenda.
What's your take?
The below is a list of fields containing personal #data.
That data is held in information systems which the so-called "DOGE" has sought to access.
This list is sourced from agency documents that were assembled by The New York Times.
Starting an interesting chapter in my digital life: minimizing how much control it has on me.
Started today with deleting some addicting apps on my phone, and unsubscribing from promotional emails and notifications.
I’m also going to keep apps on a tablet or accessible via web when I’m home, to reduce the time I look at my phone.
I made a plan as to how many different “phases” I’ll enter before I think I’m completely satisfied but we’ll see how this goes. #mindfulness #doomscrolling
Want a better night’s sleep? Limit your #DoomScrolling before bed! A growing body of research suggests that how often people use social media before bed – and how engaged they are in it – matters more than how long they are on screens as a whole when it comes to getting restful sleep. Social psychologist and sleep researcher Brian N. Chin, from Trinity College, explains that emotionally stimulating content can lead to greater arousal that delays the onset of sleep. Small behavioral changes, such as avoiding doomscrolling and leaving your phone outside your bedroom at night, can help you get more sleep, he writes. #sleep #sleeping #SocialMedia #PersonalCare #anxiety

@jameshowell I think #goodscrolling is short and sweet and non-exclusive (some may not wish to associate curiosity with nerd-dom).
But I agree that it lacks the sleekness and mystique of #doomscrolling.
