Sometimes a novel is drafted in my head in just a few minutes. I have quite a few of these drafts in my head. I usually already know what it's about, who the characters are and how the story ends. A first fully written draft, on the other hand, takes far too long. I'm far too slow to work all my ideas into novels in a lifetime. One draft a year sounds good.
