Been running #duplicati for several years as my backup solution for Windows, and it seems like every few months it finds a new way to run off the rails and require a bunch of troubleshooting.

This time it seems to corrupt its database every few days, and it requires MULTIPLE DAYS to rebuild. If this keeps happening, I might try something else like #restic

I'm only looking for something free that can efficiently backup to a NAS on my LAN. No paid or cloud BS.

As I have broken installation of Ubuntu on my desktop during upgrading due to my lack of skill, I tried #LinuxMint @linuxmint and found its Cinnamon desktop easy to use and sophisticated thanks to useful software.

I especially like Welcome screen, a kind reminder of tasks to be done right after install with links to tools such as Timeshift for system snapshots.

Restoring data backed up by #Duplicati, I successfully recovered from the disaster, and I already started liking Cinnamon desktop😄

I'm currently looking at a warning message from #duplicati regarding a host key changing (screenshot in thread).

It seems like only the bit length changed of a previously trusted key; the format and fingerprint of the key remain the same.

What should I do?

Recently codebase of #duplicati have been synchronized from its GitHub repository to its Transifex project since some years.

Since the amount of added strings is lot (~10% of the total amount) and new functions have been added to the software since the last update, this #FOSS project needs help by volunteers who speak a language other than English as well 🙂

Over the weekend and today I have worked on localization of #duplicati, a #FreeSoftware for storing encrypted backups in the cloud.

The idea is that localizing the software which I myself use actively would help friends of mine as well when I introduce it to them. That should also help them to grasp what free software is all about, by actually using the improved version.

The native HBS3 backup app of QNAP keeps giving me issues. At random the backups are cancelling because of supposed connection issues.Have been trying to get this fixed for some time, but new issues keep appearing whenever they like.

Am switching now to a combination of Duplicati (for backupping stuff to my NAS) and Syncthing (for syncing the backups to my local and remote backups NAS systems).

I can't notice that more and more native apps are having issues or do not bring the functionality that I wanted.
