Exhibit #Knee on the #TattooTour is my piece of a set known as the bee's knees. A nesting partner has a similar tattoo but with a darker blue (bi colors) and slightly different design. [Previous Exhibit](lgbtqia.space/@h3mmy/114270861)

Several people in my life have wanted matching tattoos, and this is often a difficult situation. I know how relationships can ebb and flow over the years, but I am also #poly (relationship anarchy). After some discussion, we decided on bumblebees as it parallels poly social constructs in fun ways.

Also, bumblebees will sometimes get 'drunk' on nectar and fall asleep in some flowers. They also like to just nap in flowers. Occasionally, they may fall out while napping. Moonflowers have psychoactive compounds like scopolamine (anticholinergic), and morning glories can have lysergic acid (LSA). Both those compounds are sleepy making.

So #bumblebees fit the need. It makes it easy to include more people into the tattoo theme as desired, and importantly isn't strictly bound to the set either.

This was also the fastest #Tattoo I've gotten because it is also the smallest.

NatureThe risk of shortcutting in deep learning algorithms for medical imaging research - Scientific ReportsWhile deep learning (DL) offers the compelling ability to detect details beyond human vision, its black-box nature makes it prone to misinterpretation. A key problem is algorithmic shortcutting, where DL models inform their predictions with patterns in the data that are easy to detect algorithmically but potentially misleading. Shortcutting makes it trivial to create models with surprisingly accurate predictions that lack all face validity. This case study shows how easily shortcut learning happens, its danger, how complex it can be, and how hard it is to counter. We use simple ResNet18 convolutional neural networks (CNN) to train models to do two things they should not be able to do: predict which patients avoid consuming refried beans or beer purely by examining their knee X-rays (AUC of 0.63 for refried beans and 0.73 for beer). We then show how these models’ abilities are tied to several confounding and latent variables in the image. Moreover, the image features the models use to shortcut cannot merely be removed or adjusted through pre-processing. The end result is that we must raise the threshold for evaluating research using CNNs to proclaim new medical attributes that are present in medical images.

Because now, every time I get a "a new version of #Firefox is available, click to #update" dialog, I shudder in dread, and after applying the update I go through the entire preferences/settings to double-check that they haven't added any more user-hostile #antifeatures garbage (cryptocurrency, blockchain, "#privacy-preserving ad #surveillance", "AI", on and on the garbage they've tried cramming into Firefox).

Users shouldn't dread simple #software updates. At least not open-source users.

I feel like I am re-learning how to #run. When I started ~20 yrs ago, my issue was breathing (my lungs a major reason why I started). My legs always found their own way.

Now, this #knee pain--and the now-evident ways it is actually about muscle tightness in my quads, etc.--is a different situation

And a different process to work through it.

Got in 4 miles today, and after stretching, used the theragun to put some extra massaging into those muscles. #running #RunnersOfMastodon

Whenever I stand up to sprint on my bike I sometimes get an immediate sharp #pain in my #knee, like a knife. It’ll persist for a few hours when that happens. I don’t know what that is. I can run for up to 3 hours and bike even longer sitting down with my knees being entirely unaffected, but if I make one tiny powerful movement standing up the bike, it’s basically over for a while.

#Knee update if anyone cares: sports doc found a lot of fluid in the knee, most likely from a small tear in the #meniscus. Eh oh.

I got a biiiiiiiiig needle to draw out the fluid, and a cortisone injection. I'm still sore, but the swelling has almost completely vanished, and I can move so much better now. I see the doc again in 2 weeks!
