nullagent<p>This is not toxicity, I'm doing cybersecurity research and sadly I'm seeing a ton of vulns still.</p><p><a href="https://partyon.xyz/tags/meshtastic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>meshtastic</span></a> have claimed to be secure for years but only actually introduced public key crypto last year. circfruit<p>I’ve never witnessed such rapid local tech spread. Only 1.5 months ago there was no <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/meshtastic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>meshtastic</span></a> in my city. Now there are 20+ nodes (on and off). This is going to be interesting.</p>

Daniel Lakeland<p>It seems <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/meshcore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>meshcore</span></a> is a direct message first protocol, with group messages flooding like <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/meshtastic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>meshtastic</span></a> but the client nodes never flooding. There are two other roles with separate firmware. Repeater, and Chatroom. A chatroom, which can also repeat, stores messages for people who are offline. So there are synchronous and asynchronous messages.</p><p>Thinking that I'll flash my two nodes as mesh core tomorrow and see who's around.</p>

nullagent<p>I wrote a hot take on all the issues with meshtastic. This is before meshcore came out. Since this time a ton of vulns have been found in meshtastic in many of the spots I expected. One of them literally already had 3 nodes including a solar one he wanted to set up but didn't know that much about how to do it. So gonna try to get in touch with him and get that going.</p>
Finn<p>My first prototype of a Meshtastic solar node...</p><p>Works fine but I thought I would need a strong frame for the panel to hold everything together.</p><p>I am not happy with this one, for the next version I just will drill some holes in the solar panel (at the border) and assemble everything using less screws and less filament.</p><p>But: The Seeed Studio XIAO nRF52840 is running for days on battery now!
