@peteorrall #Meshtastic is still pretty beta, but there are other meshes using the #LoRa tech. One of them will be crucial. Encrypted ground to overhead plane is pretty badass.
@SrRochardBunson #Meshtastic is an interesting #technology but from the initial research it's closer to beta.
Probando os meus primeiros nodos meshtastic Faketec. E funcionan!
@gafu @egon0 but it is logical. It IS documented that encryption is turned off if you tag ham license. I would not want my personal msgs be transferred unencrypted if I am unlicensed user. So what to blame here? #meshtastic #hamradio
So, Operation erfolgreich. Interne Antenne abgeklemmt, externe Antenne eingebaut. Jetzt hoffentlich deutlich besserer #Meshtastic Empfang! #Lilygo #tdeckplus
If you set your #meshtastic node to licensed HAMradio, you no longer repeat messages from non licensed nodes at all.
In the sourcecode:
if (owner.is_licensed && nodeDB->getLicenseStatus(mp.from) == UserLicenseStatus::NotLicensed) {
// Don't let licensed users to rebroadcast packets from unlicensed users
// If we know they are in-fact unlicensed
LOG_DEBUG("Packet from unlicensed user, ignoring packet");
return false;

@KrissyKat "I bought a Meshtastic compatible device, a Heltec V3 LoRa transceiver, to do some experimenting with the DIY messaging system. It can be used off-grid to communicate in situations where cell phones are not available, for example. I'm still learning how to use it. I have connected it to the MQTT server run by Chicagoland Mesh and have been checking out the group chat channel by replying to people sending test messages to let them know I saw them. I did see a message sent from an airplane passing through the Chicago area skies this morning which was pretty great."
This is awesome!
@tk thanks for giving me some direction to look in. it's much appreciated i've been looking at all these different offerings and going.. "uhhhh..decision paralysis".
I found this after a quick search on what you mentioned https://loganmarchione.com/2023/05/lora-and-meshtastic/ and I'll leave it here for myself & others.
Thanks again!
Meshtastic brings you to awesome places. I have crossed Dybbøl many times on the way to Sønderborg but I have never stopped there.
Because of it's high elevation I stopped there some days ago to test my new antenna and catch some nodes.
It's an awesome view!
And at this time I directly communicated with a Meshtastic node 24 km far away which is my personal record!
The position of my Meshtastic SenseCap during #WHY2025, which was transmitted to the MQTT server.
If I had known what it would look like, I might have tried to draw something nice. #Meshtastic
[Got what I needed, thanks – PLEASE DO NOT boost this further.] This is an open call for insight and help: I’m looking for guidance from folks who are familiar with #Meshtastic to help me understand what would be involved in setting up and maintaining a national-scale #mutualaid and disaster-response (relief/recovery/“resilience”) network in the UK.
Do you call a person using #Meshtastic a #Mesher?
My next Meshtastic antenna is finished!
I found it in this PDF called "Practical VHF/UHF Antennas" on page 26:
https://we.riseup.net/assets/295748/Practical+VHF+and+UHF+antennas.pdf
It is called "The Skirted Dipole Antenna" - and it seems I have understood the diagram correctly. It works fine!
Because it's already late (11:28 pm) I will do a field test tomorrow. But an indoor test already showed a much better RSSI which is promising!
I will post updates tomorrow, good night and happy meshing!
