So far, bluesky seems to have no shortage of memes, cat pictures, shitposting, meta-discourse on social networks, etc, but just about zero of the interesting hacker/maker content I enjoyed on Twitter and follow over here.

So beyond open questions like "are they really serious about distributed/federated?", "are they going to manage to make user safety a thing?", and "is this all some Evil Plot by Jack?", the content quality is not there yet, for me.

My work is about engaging with problems in society through or reflexive practical talk about communication. For example, right now I'm studying the different concepts of communication that people use for making arguments about - why communication on Twitter is good or bad, why they are staying or leaving, and so on. Your thoughts?

I'm an emeritus professor of at the University of Colorado Boulder, currently living in , Pennsylvania. A long time user (@meta_d), I'm here to explore this alternative space. Honestly, I hate the idea of leaving Twitter and still hope it won't be necessary.

Reproducing a 99% serious twitter thread here since it isn't in my most recent takeout, and the wayback queue for twitter is 46 minutes due to lots of people backing up tweets, I guess.

Let's push further in that direction, variance and learning are good!

How about banning #metadiscourse? Twitter=experience public square and soon everything market, not experience discussion about these.

I'm going to get both my throwaway #Mastodon #metadiscourse thoughts in one toot and never return to the subject.

1) I wish people could get notifications when we like or boost something they boost. You should get dopamine for being a talented booster.

2) I like that they're called toots. You can't take yourself as seriously if every time you want to say something you have to toot it. #StayHumble
