PLASTIC RAINCOATS/HUNG UP MINDS
Ultimate Spinach - Topic

youtube.com/watch?v=zBA80uS8b4

"Plastic Raincoats" is a fun song. The Ultimate Spinach, a prime example of The Boston Sound, was a better group than I remembered. If any band members ever stop by, I will apologize.

The Boston Sound, which came to be called Bosstown, was a major label promotion (MGM Records). It fizzled and Bosstown became a joke; but this was not entirely deserved. Some very good music came out of the Boston Sound and the better tracks recorded then hold up very well to this day.

At the time, I was of the view, which would seem to put me in the minority now, that the Jeff "Skunk" Baxter lineup of the Ultimate Spinach was the best.

Hooray for the all-around great John Cooke, Earth Opera, David Grisman, The Ramrods (renamed "Puff"), Peter Rowan, Teddy and the Pandas, the Ultimate Spinach, John Lincoln Wright, and a whole host of others. New England hippies had a wicked good time.

One of the Bosstown-era singers, who came out of Boston, went on, in the 1970s, to become the biggest dance music star in the world: - Donna Summer. I am a big fan. Donna Summer's late '60s Boston band, The Crow, played innovative psych/pop arrangements at the Psychedelic Supermarket.
