Again, I used the <a href="https://rollenspiel.social/tags/Warlock" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Warlock</span></a>! rules set for playtesting which went really well. Kritischer Fehlschlag<p><strong>Don Norman im&nbsp;Dungeon</strong></p><p>Neulich ging es in einer Diskussion auf <a href="https://discord.gg/qqQvtfMuaN" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">discord </a>um Dungeon Crawling und was daran frustrierend oder Spaß bringend ist, wie viel die Spielleitung telegrafieren sollte, und all solche Dinge. Ich habe mich sehr an der Haltung gestört, dass es gutes Spieldesign sei, wenn die Spielenden gegen jede Wand schlagen sollten (Geheimräume!), und ständig mit Stange und Walze jede einzelne Bodenplatte nach Fallen absuchen sollten. Natürlich würde man das im realen Leben machen, aber bringt es Spaß? Ich finde nicht. Warum? Dazu nehme ich Don Norman, einen der großen Köpfe des Interaktionsdesigns, zu Hilfe. Damit dieser Beitrag nicht zu einer Vorlesung ausartet, werde ich mich auf den für einen mit Fallen gespickten Dungeon relevanten Teil der Interaktionsprinzipien beschränken. </p><p>Norman sagt, für eine frustfreie Interaktion mit einem Gegenstand muss dieser Gegenstand Hinweise zur Interaktion geben (sogenannte <strong>Signifiers</strong>). Das kann beispielsweise ein Schalter oder ein Hebel sein, oder verdächtige Scharten im Stein, oder oder oder. Bei dem Streichholzschaltel-großen Artefakt, das ganz aus einem Stück weißen Materials gehauen zu sein scheint, dessen Ecken perfekt rund geschliffen wurden und an dem kein Scharnier zu sehen ist und nur bei ganz genauem Hinsehen eine haarfeine Linie, die sich in zwei dritteln Höhe um das Artefakt zieht, wird es schon schwieriger. Nun gut, die breite Kerbe auf der Vorderseite entlang dieser Linie könnte noch als Hinweis durchgehen, dass dies wohl ein Kistchen ist und sich etwas darin verstecken könnte.</p><p>Hier habe ich im letzten Satz direkt einen weiteren Grundsatz der Interaktion untergebracht, das <strong>Mapping</strong>. Ich habe hier mein eigenes Vorwissen (auch Konzeptmodell genannt) eingebracht, indem ich die Kerbe mit der Möglichkeit des Öffnens verband. Genauso mappe ich bei einem Schalter, dass man ihn drücken können wird. Bei diesen Beispielen überlappen mein Spielenden- und mein Charakterwissen sehr wahrscheinlich, aber was ist, wenn sich in dem Kistchen von oben zwei kleine, spiegelsymmetrische Knollen aus demselben weißen Material verbergen, unregelmäßig mit Löchern gespickt und mit einem kurzen Stängel an der Seite? Die Spielenden kommen vielleicht mit Hilfe ihrer Echtwelt-Konzeptmodelle darauf, dass die Form und Größe der Knollen suggeriert, dass man sie sich ins Ohr stecken könnte. Aber ein Haufen Fantasy-Charaktere, der zum ersten Mal solch eine Kuriosität erblickt, wird es hier mit dem Mapping vielleicht schon schwieriger haben. Durch das Bezug nehmen auf Spielendenwissen (und damit Echtwelt-Konzeptmodelle) kann die Spielleitung ein Rätsel also einfacher gestalten, beim bewussten Fokus auf das reine Charakterwissen können hingegen schon die Beschreibungen von Alltagsgegenständen der Echtwelt kleine Rätsel im Spiel werden, ganz wie bei meinem Beispiel.</p><p>Das bringt mich zum dritten und letzten Grundsatz, den ich hier vorstellen möchte: <strong>Feedback</strong>. Wenn ich mit etwas interagiere, sollte ich duch den Gegenstand selbst oder durch meine Umgebung eine Rückmeldung bekommen, was diese Interaktion ausgelöst hat oder haben könnte. Vielleicht dringt aus der weißen Knolle in meinem Ohr ein leises Flüstern, sodass ich merke, dass mein Interaktionsversuch Erfolg hatte. Genauso kennen wir alle die Rückmeldung der Spielleitung, dass nach dem Drücken eines Schalters tief aus der Wand mechanische Geräusche dringen. Selbst wenn wir die konkreten Auswirkungen nun immer noch nicht kennen, ist es deutlich befriedigender, als wenn einfach gar nichts zu bemerken wäre.</p><p>Und da sind wir wieder beim Abtasten der Dungeon-Böden und -Wände. Wenn die Spielleitung keine Informationen über Signifier herausgibt – weil die Falle zu gut versteckt ist oder die Umgebung zu dunkel oder weil es die Angelegenheit „spaßiger“ gestalten soll – bleibt den Spielenden nichts anderes übrig, als auf gut Glück jeden Quadratzenzimeter zu untersuchen. Das „natürlich taste ich alles mit der Stange ab, bevor ich einen Schritt mache“ wird dann zur Pflichtphrase ganz wie Catos „ceterum censeo“ am Ende jeder seiner Reden (das aber zugegebenermaßen ein anderes Ziel hatte, als einen Dungeon zu überleben). Damit wird das Spiel nicht mehr ein Spiel der Knobelei mit Signifiern, Mapping und Feedback, sondern eines der Pflichtphrasen. Doch gerade das Spielen mit diesen Signifiern ist ein wichtiger Punkt für Spannung und Freude im Dungeon Crawling. Und deshalb bin ich der Meinung, dass eine Spielleitung ruhig etwas großzügiger mit dem Streuen von Signifiern sein sollte.
