Wife's off invigilating exams this week and she's just sent me this photo of the latest Postbox Topper near the school. The writing on the flag reads "Topper Knitters Tea Break. New Topper To Follow."

A crocheted postbox topper on a postbox. There are houses in the background, out of focus, and the sky is mostly cloudy but with a few blue patches showing. The topper is primarily an orange colour and has knitted cakes on the side we can see plus a small teapot, cup, and saucer on the rear. A red flag is raised in the centre on which the words "Topper Knitters Tea Break. New Topper To Follow" can just be made out.

Valentine's pillar box topper
Appropriately enough this was photographed on Valentine's Day. It was in Hotham Road.

This is a recent tradition, based on the Yarnbombing tradition. Anonymous knitters decorate post boxes with topical themes.

Wife has just remembered she took a photo of the latest post box topper near her parents' house today. This one celebrates the recent Chinese New Year with a dragon at the centre passing on the flag to the snake in front, we guess.

A crocheted letterbox topper on a traditional red British postbox. It's a bright day with clear blue sky and there is a terrace of houses in the background and a car parked nearby. The postbox topper is red and is decorated with further works of knitting craft in the form of animals associated with the Chinese zodiac. A horse, monkey, rabbit, and chicken can be seen, and there is a coiled snake at the front with a toothy, smiling dragon sat in the centre on the top holding a stick with a yellow flag on which is written "Kung Hei Fat Choy".

This is the Poetry Postbox in Glasgow's Botanic Gardens. It was created by Julia Smith and was installed in 2007. The idea was you wrote poetry and posted in the the box. I don't think it's still checked and the associated website is no longer active. The post box itself is based on a Victorian Penfold Pillarbox created by the architect J.W. Penfold in 1866. Incidently, this is why Danger Mouse's sidekick was called Penfold!
