Beneath the #problematic surface, New York Times’ #Kursk reporting reveals a deeper moral rot

At the end of the day, this is just a very simple question of #moral fiber.

As a flagship Western #media outlet, in a country that has long been the center of the free world – but is now facing a moral crisis of its own – The New York Times has an inherent duty to #document these #historic events with some level of moral grounding.

I'm trying to correct a longtime gap by finally reading Twain's Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn books, and have to admit—I hate them. Yeah, there's real craft here, and some great storytelling, but OMG it's nonstop n****r n****r n****r and I'm sure Twain was trying to be on the right side of things but it's just relentless. Reminds me how we queer folk are supposed to revere The Boys In The Band, which has a similar problem, but with sad gayness.

Okay, this kid got the correct answer. It was also done how I would have done it. I think the problem was how he wrote it. PEMDAS
5n-16
If n=10 -> (5*10)-16=34
Is 511 a term for this sequence
I would have used y=5n+16

511=5n+16
5n=495
495÷5=99
(5×99)+16=y
y=511

[en] Children's screen time: when is it problematic?

"For those who don’t [have skills to regulate their own use of #technology] ... #problematic #internet use is almost universally a #symptom of an underlying #mental health condition or #neurodivergence, typically #depression, social #anxiety, #autism, or #ADHD ..."

"We see the better analogy as #binge-eating #disorder, which is the most prevalent eating disorder."

Harvard Gazette · How young is too young? No such thing, apparently.By Sy Boles
I love seeing people do a break down that #HarryPotter was #problematic . I mean of course it was, it was made in the 90s. Chasing Amy was considered progressive then. People ate it up because it was drastically more progressive than any other book that popular before it. It wasn't perfect, it was just better than what we had seen before. But I find it funny just how shocked so many youngsters react to it because they had no idea just how bad it used to be. I think that's why so many decided not to show up to vote. They can't imagine a society like that so they couldn't imagine how bad it could be

TL;DR: Cake Playlist.

A friend doesn't know much about Cake (the band). I was really into them, 25-20 years ago. My current take:

1. They were essential 90s listening.

2. The singer is the least interesting thing about the group. The bassist and guitarist... I'm always blown away. They're just kind of incredible. Almost always interesting, hooky, finding grooves where others would find dull repetition. The drummer is awesome, too (though I always pay insufficient attention to drums).

3. I am selective in which Cake songs I listen to after realizing that a disturbing number of them sound like they're written by a whiny incel.

Anyway, I made a playlist for the friend: Cake I Still Like (and yes, there are a few whiny incel songs in there. They're burrowed in too deep. The music is just that good).
