Carolin Würfel "Als ich vor fast 20 Jahren zum ersten Mal Istanbul besuchte, sprach ich mit einem Wissenschaftler, der die Militärputsche und politischen Umwälzungen in der Türkei miterlebt hatte – manche davon über Nacht. Er war weise und vorsichtig, und obwohl ich die Tragweite seiner Worte damals nicht ganz begriff, sind sie mir im Gedächtnis geblieben. „Wenn wir nicht aufpassen“, warnte er 2006, „enden wir unter einem autoritären Regime.“Zwei Jahrzehnte lang hielt sich seine Vorahnung hartnäckig und brach gelegentlich durch. Doch letzte Woche wurde die Erosion demokratischer Prinzipien unleugbar. Istanbuls Bürgermeister Ekrem İmamoğlu wurde nach einem Gerichtsurteil wegen Korruption verhaftet.Die Angst vor der Zukunft ist in eine Stadt zurückgekehrt, die sonst so laut und unerbittlich ist. Eines ist sicher: Istanbul lebt von Paradoxien. Es ist die einzige Stadt der Welt, die sich über zwei Kontinente erstreckt und ständig zwischen Ost und West, Tradition und Moderne, Glaube und Skepsis navigiert. Hier prallen täglich Geschichten aufeinander. Man muss nicht einmal den Bosporus überqueren, um dies zu erleben; ein einfacher Spaziergang durch Beyoğlu genügt.Vom Galataport – einer eleganten Hafenpromenade, die speziell für Kreuzfahrtpassagiere und Instagram-Feeds konzipiert wurde – schlendert man durch das streng religiöse Tophane, wo Alkohol tabu ist, Metzger Befehle brüllen und palästinensische Flaggen von Balkonen hängen. Dann plötzlich ist man in Galata mit seiner italienischen Architektur oder im geschäftigen Tomtom, wo die Gäste der Weinbars auf die Straßen strömen und sich Kirchenglocken mit dem Gebetsruf vermischen. Auf der İstiklal Caddesi prallen Widersprüche aufeinander – Schönheitskliniken, die mit geformten Nasen und Haartransplantationen werben, neben Frauen mit Kopftüchern und anderen in bauchfreien Tops.Kinder wühlen vor großen Konsulaten im Müll. Ältere Männer gehen Arm in Arm und unterhalten sich intensiv. Nachts pulsieren in den Schwulenclubs nur wenige Schritte vom Fischmarkt entfernt Musik und Musik. Die Stadt selbst scheint zu behaupten: Ich gebe nicht auf. Ich bin immer alles zugleich. Oder wie der Historiker Ekrem Işın einmal schrieb: „Wenn wir Istanbul betrachten, betreten wir immer Pluralität. Denn Istanbul hatte nie nur eine Zivilisation, sondern Zivilisationen; nicht nur eine Geschichte, sondern viele Geschichten; nicht nur eine Lebensweise, sondern unzählige.“Der Alltag hier bedeutet, sich allem hinzugeben – der Schönheit, dem Kampf, dem Absurden. In den letzten vier Jahren habe ich einiges erlebt, und ich glaube, diese Widerstandsfähigkeit – diese Weigerung, sich auf eine einzige Geschichte oder Ideologie reduzieren zu lassen – ist eine der größten Stärken der Stadt. Ich habe miterlebt, wie sich die Wirtschaftsprobleme verschärften und die Inflation in die Höhe schoss. Vor gerade einmal vier Jahren waren für 10 türkische Lira 1 Euro zu haben; heute sind für 1 Euro 41 Lira zu bekommen. Kleine Münzen sind nahezu wertlos. Der Mindestlohn wurde kürzlich auf 22.104 Lira pro Monat festgelegt, doch in Beyoğlu ist es fast unmöglich, eine Wohnung für weniger als 30.000 Lira zu mieten. Viele Vermieter verlangen die Zahlung in Dollar. An schlechten Tagen googeln meine türkischen Freunde Trost bei „Große Depression“; an besseren Tagen lachen sie über die Casino-Atmosphäre. Ich habe all das fasziniert und mit Schuldgefühlen beobachtet, während mein Euro-Einkommen mich vor Problemen schützt, die nicht meine sind.Ich war hier, als das Erdbeben im Südosten der Türkei zuschlug. Es hatte unmittelbare Auswirkungen auf das Leben in Istanbul. Jeder, mit dem ich spreche, weiß jetzt, dass man Vorräte für drei Tage dabei haben sollte, dass es Strickleitern aus leichtem Kunststoff gibt und dass der sicherste Ort während eines Erdbebens der Raum mit den wenigsten Möbeln ist.Ich habe die Präsidentschaftswahlen 2023 und die Folgen verfolgt – manche verstummten, andere jubelten. Ich sah viele Freunde, die Visa zur Ausreise aus der Türkei beantragten und abgelehnt wurden. Istanbul ist magisch, metaphorisch und geografisch, doch die Barrieren zwischen der Stadt und Europa erscheinen oft unüberbrückbar (selbst mit drei Brücken in Sicht). Die Beantragung eines Schengen-Visums ist für Türken zu einem demütigenden Ritual geworden – endloser Papierkram, willkürliche Ablehnungen. „Es ist, als würde man um Urlaub betteln, und man selbst zahlt dafür“, sagte ein Freund verbittert.Ein Reisepass ist heute nicht nur ein Privileg, sondern eine Investition. Der aktuelle Preis: 11.281 Lira für zehn Jahre. Viele geben ihre Reisepläne ganz auf – es lohnt sich nicht, sich wie ein „Bürger dritter Klasse“ zu fühlen. Mein deutscher Pass ist ein Schlüssel, der Türen öffnet, von denen meine Freunde nur träumen können. Ihre Realität erinnert mich an meine ostdeutsche Großmutter, die den Großteil ihres Lebens hinter einer Mauer gefangen verbrachte. Die Hoffnung kehrte mit den Kommunalwahlen 2024 zurück. İmamoğlu wurde wiedergewählt. Die CHP gewann Wahlkreise, die sie nie zuvor gewonnen hatte – sogar Üsküdar, wo Erdoğan lebt, wurde von einer Frau gewonnen. Die Menschen atmeten auf. Sie begannen wieder zu reden. Sie trauten sich sogar, über die Gezi-Park-Proteste zu sprechen – das Trauma zu verarbeiten, im Glauben, dass diese Jahre, diese brutalen Wochen, nicht wiederkehren würden. Das Leben ging weiter. Ideen verbreiteten sich. Eine Art Erneuerung, eine Art Auftrieb. Es gab Raum zum Denken, zum Schaffen, zum Vorstellen von Möglichkeiten. Ja, die Lira verlor weiter an Wert, und das Leben in Istanbul wurde unerträglich teuer. Aber die Angst hatte sich gelegt – bis der Bürgermeister plötzlich verhaftet wurde. Die Geschichte nahm erneut eine scharfe, brutale Wendung. abolitionmediaFray Bartolomé de las Casas Center: a Strategic ReflectionIn recent days in San Cristobal de las Casas, Frayba presented their report Chiapas, in the spiral of armed and criminal violence; between governmental chaos, organized crime and the paths of struggle and resistance. Its title finds meaning in the dedication that must be taken closely into account:“For the peoples, communities and rebellious hearts. For those who forge peace, even at the cost of their own lives. For those who, in the midst of darkness, glimpse beyond the horizon. For those who distrust the peace of governments, for their voice is a dead-end echo. For those who do not see peace as a mere silence of weapons. For those who, with each heartbeat, feel the urgency to build it and shape it every dawn. For those who, in the middle of the night, and its inextinguishable light, decide to set fire to the dawn.”The various chapters cover a situation that suggests that it is not only present in Chiapas. With the support of reports from the United Nations and various human rights organizations, it is developed with rigor, figures, and foundations beyond rhetoric. It begins with forced displacement, and its increase and devastating effects on peoples and communities. It identifies the various causes of displacement in Mexico, from different types of violence – most marked by organized crime (OD) – paramilitary groups and State agents; development projects, including mining and illegal logging; hydrocarbon extraction, dam construction, tourism, community territorial conflicts; climate change, and natural disasters.It refers to the continuity of counterinsurgency violence directed at the Support Bases of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (BAEZLN) and points to the actions, omission and permissiveness of the armed forces (FA) and local and federal public security institutions. It also points out that the complicity with officials of the three levels of government occurs in a context of zero enforcement of the law in this area and the exponential and unlimited expansion of illegal armed groups, hired assassins and paramilitaries, who fight for control of strategic territories for the trafficking of migrants, weapons, drugs and in general illegal economies of all kinds.They are often part of the local governmental structure, obtain resources from social programs such as Sembrando Vida, whose implementation generates conflicts and tensions. They constitute virtual zones of silence. In a second chapter, it addresses the disappearance of people, which in 2023 was already the subject of a report by the same center called Touching the Void. The increase in Chiapas and the whole country of the strategy of terror, they note, with which it is intended to silence any possibility of social movement and self-management of the territory. Hence the movement of searching mothers who become defenders due to the need to search for their loved ones, carrying out the work that the State not only omits, but also victimizes these groups. It includes the denunciation of attacks against people of sexual diversity, journalists and priests, including the crime againt Father Marcelo Perez.An important chapter is related to the militaristic policy of the Mexican State, which is part of a complex context of remilitarization, reflecting a strategy of territorial control. in the use of the military for public security tasks, among many others, which has led to an erosion of civil and political rights. Specifically, the support of the constrainsurgency is developed, directed at the EZLN through the Chiapas 94 Campaign Plan and the Chiapas 2000 Campaign Plan.It includes the analysis of the formation of the National Guard already integrated into the National Defense Secretariat as part of the  strategy of militarism as well as the recommendations of the Inter-American system to strengthen the civilian space. The pact of impunity is characterized by the deliberate absence of governmental structures, which configures the generalized violence that has been justified by the official denialism. On the other side, in the analysis and denunciation of the continued contempt for the native peoples under the guise of progressivism, the capture of historical leaderships, what they call capitalist domestication, the individualized approach of social programs and the rigorous criticism of the Sembrando Vida program are central.The very comprehensive and solid report outlines its analysis of the context of dispossession and violence inherent to the capitalist system in which it maintains that there are no indications to consider that the war against the peoples will be stopped from there.
